Oooh nice close up! :) We used to have a lot of those around here, but not so much any more.

It’s amazing how good my phone camera is. I was surprised to see it on the walking path. Thinking it was dead, I tried to move the critter with a stick but he/she clung to the surface. It’s getting a little chilly here now, so was surprised about that also.

Amazing the colors and patterns of nature. (K)

Yes it is. This little critter is beautifully adorned. I hope he/she got somewhere safe before school started on Monday, as this was on a walkway around a sports complex at a school.

Thank you. I was amazed how clear it turned out. Of course, the cicada had to stay perfectly still for the picture. It was chilly that day so probably inert.

You are welcome! The clarity is really good and the cicada posed like a good model by staying still! 😀

LOVING this!
And oh yes…..these new phone cameras are incredible! Photos I’ve posted on the dVerse OLN prompt are taken on mine. Have you tried the portrait setting? Amazing as well.

Not sure my phone has a portrait setting? I haven’t seen it.

Ah, is that a cicada? Wow, I never realised they had that Art Nouveau patterning!
i just love your use of “agog”. Fabulous word choice there.

Yes, Sarah. Not sure what variety this is, but it looks different than the ones I’ve seen around here (this pic was taken about 50 miles from home) and yes it is cool patterning. Not sure if he was alive or not, I touched him with a stick and he clung to the sidewalk so still alive. Thank you on the agog. I imagined him looking back at me :)

a miniature encounter with nature, in contrast to Lil’s whales – but maybe just as important in the great scheme of things.

:) Sarah, I wanted to tell you I think I sent the wrong kind of poems to your request for submissions. I will work on some new stuff in line with the theme and resubmit.

Image and haiku are perfection. Our Indian Summer clings on, but at night there is a definite Fall chill in the air. The leaves are not turning or dropping yet, but it will happen soon enough I think.

Glenn, thank you so much. We have Indian Summer here also and the cicada and crickets have a singing competition going on.

I would certainly have been agog to have seen such a large bug. Great photo and nice haiku!

The actual bug is between 2-3″ so not quite as imposing as the photo. Still very surprising to find the critter on the sidewalk instead of on a tree.

I love coming across sights such as your bug. I seem to be enthralled with nature such as this. :)

Hey Lisa — Hi poet!. Wanted to let you know I am “temporarily” sightless in my right eye from a retinal disease. It is a struggle fir me to write, but I will still wrote my pieces, going very slowly. Reading at any length is extremely difficult, and causes painful headache — so wanted to say thanks for contributing to OLN. But I won’t be able to read what you wrote, yet I wanted to visit. I spent a little time writing this best I could with one eye, i copied it, and I am pasting it in here to say hi. Got an operation coming up in about a week when the infection is down. Hopefully things will get back to normal.thanks, Rob

Me also. It’s rare that I see them. I have heard if you go out by your trees at night with a flashlight you can see them crawling along. No thanks. These are bugs for the day for me ;)
