June was reeling from her mother’s comment about the absence of photographs of her. She let the comment slide until she could talk with her cousin, Sue. Sue’s mom, Aunt Gin, had been inseparable with Mom. If anyone knew family secrets it would be Sue.
June and Sue spent the day moving Mom into the assisted care unit, then all three decided to celebrate by going out for dinner. As they walked along, Mrs. Jones pointed to the sky and said, “There, June! There’s your mom and her friends. Ask her about your pictures!”
June was happy – yet sad now.

It’s very like the random statements my mother made as her cognition declined. How to decipher that language, which seems to consist only of symbols? (K)

‘Random’ statements are often the thorniest one…

Photograph is good. But it is better to have the picture etched in mind. That way it will never be missed.

So, is Mom slipping mentally or playing a cruel game? Maybe she doesn’t see the relocation to the assisted care unit as something to celebrate.
