Veil of Justice
He, before the court;
I, watching in back row;
Armed assemblage all.
He looked small against
Polished oak bench
Gavel echoes, justice
commence, proclaimed
by ordained tin god.
Away he shuffled
without a sentence.
I said I wanted justice
But my quivering lip lied.

This week, I’d like you to quench our thirst for poems by playing with the word quiver.

This is incredibly powerful, and the scene is remarkable though terribly conflicting. Well done.

The veil of justice… my distrust with courts have just increased the more I learn about them… but then it seems like we all are judges these days.

This is such an intriguing scene, Jadeli. As with all good storytelling, it makes me want to know more.

You pulled me in to this scene with so few words. It makes me wonder about the backstory to that quivering lip.

Ali, thank you. It’s a long one.

I agree with De and Ali, your quadrille has made me curious about the story behind the scene, Jade. Is it taken from real life?

This had an air that there is so much more to the story than what we read in 44 words. Well done Lisa.

Kudos for getting us all to beg for the back story. You have established a lot in terms of the world of the poem, despite the brevity.

Thanks so much, Glenn. I’ve been writing the back story for months now.

There is the law and there is justice. Occasionally they intersect. (K)

I think I am a bit disillusioned with the courts. I do enjoy a story poem – well done.

Justice isn’t synonymous with revenge, which is what comes over strongly to me. Good one.

It was never about revenge or retribution, or justice even. Some things can never be made whole again. Thanks for reading and commenting.
