OctPoWriMo2019 Day 23 — Furbabies

The first poem is about my dog Chauncey, who was a beloved family member from 2004 – 2016. I will never stop missing him.

Chauncey equals character plus
Happy he was, and happiness he gave
Always there for company
Unusually strong, undefeated tug-of-war champ
No mean bones in his body, but an impish spirit
Calm and quiet except not calm upon first greeting
Expert boat dog
Young again in heaven

The second acrostic is about my cat, Mlady Crumpet Chronos, known as Mlady. She was adopted from the no-kill cat shelter I volunteer at back in August I think it was.

Miss Fancy Pants of the house.
Long-haired and lady-like, she loves chasing the laser pointer
Addicted to watching birds, chipmunks, squirrels, deer, and a few possum and pheasant
Devoted to her human and her daily habits
Young and sassy and does not like our new foster furbaby AT ALL

The third and final acrostic is about our foster cat who has been here all of a week. I’ve known her for almost a year from getting to know her at the cat shelter. Her name is Elphaba now, but if she stays, her new name will be El Dotty, or Dotty for short.

Elegant, with short hair
Loving as long as you don’t overdo it, as she’s new to ongoing affection
Daring. She’s climbed to the tops of the tallest items and had to leap both ways
Observant. She’s learning the ropes of the place and is a quick learner
Tiny. At two years old when she came to the shelter she weighed 6 pounds
Tough. She’s had to face off with Mlady a few times and didn’t back off
Yappy when she’s wanting something and sounds like a baby when she does

    1. Each day has been a little better. Dotty has been pretty cool all along except when Mlady comes after her, then she stands her ground and chases. Mlady has slowly chilled out. I left them alone today for about an hour without separating them. When I came home, Mlady was sleeping, which is a good sign. So… yes, better. Not buddies but….

      1. That is good it’s getting better. Hopefully they will learn to live together. We don’t have to worry about that yet…we lost out on the other one but we might get an older one…one day…a rescue one.

        1. I know someone around here who has Bouvier puppies about 12 weeks old. No papers but they are similar to a St. Bernard. I think at this point he’s willing to give them away to a good home. Spayed!

          1. That is cool. We have to take Martha to get that done. Those are cute dogs…that hair is cool.
She is all over the place…Jen works from home and plays with her during the day…Bailey comes home from College and plays with her and then me at night…she is entertained for sure. She wears us out.

                1. Sorry work has been heavy for you. I have also been behind on reading. OctPoWriMo had taken up a lot of time for me when added to all the other prompts. Plus I’ve been polishing that short story for the contest. November should lighten things up.

                    1. There is a reason I asked that. If I send something and if you care to listen to it…could you through headphones? It was mixed that way…for headphones

    1. 🙂 I enjoy your comments, Lael. I believe Chaunce is waiting for me somewhere. Mlady is a pouty baby right now. She doesn’t like to share. Dotty is very calm all things considered and yes she’s a delicate little critter.
