#MM Music Challenge — Forever Young by Bob Dylan — Modified Erasure Poem Duet

New MM Music Badge

Jim Adams is the dedicated host of Mindlovemisery Menagerie’s Music Challenge.  Jim says:
The challenge today is to focus on [Forever Young, by Bob Dylan] and use it for inspiration in any form of creative expression (including but not limited to short stories, a piece of flash fiction, poems, lyrics, artwork, photography, (etc.) that you can share with the writing community.

Here are the original lyrics to Forever Young, written by Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
May you stay forever young
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the light surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
May you stay forever young
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung
And may you stay forever young
May you stay forever young

Next is a modified erasure poem, where I will then add an alternating line (designated by **) to each “erasure.”

Keep your blessings
**Under Mother Gaia’s loving gaze
May wishes come true
**Through all of your days
Do for others
**Lend a helping hand when asked
Do for you
**Don’t put yourself last
Build a ladder
**Weave it with loving grace
Climb on each rung
**Feel at peace in each place
Stay forever young
**With a heart that pumps love
Grow up, be righteous
**Wear a mantle of courage’ glove
Grow up, be true
**Hear it soft, like a dove
Know the truth
**As heaven’s choir above
See the light
**Brilliant morn fading to night
Be courageous
**If you must, you must fight
Stand, be strong
**With limbs like young trees
Stay forever young
**Immortality in the bees
Busy hands
**Knitting, weaving, sharing
Swift feet
**Run to where a heart needs caring
Strong foundation
**Solid iron, Gaia’s crust
When wind changes
**Be flexible when you must
Be joyful
**Sow soul’s wild oats
Sing your song
**Feel it burst from your throat
Be forever young
**Bee the mote in forever’s note

  1. A great Dylan song- off of an average Dylan album Planet Waves. The first time I recall hearing it was after Muhammad Ali defeated Leon Spinks to win the Heavyweight championship for the 3rd time- they played the song at the end of the telecast.

    1. Oh my gosh, that is a precious piece of trivia right there. A strange choice of album after that. Why not Queen’s We Are The Champions? (that probably wasn’t out yet). I like Planet Waves more than you do; it’s one of my favorite albums of his. In other music-cinema news I watched “Yesterday” a few nights ago. What a delightful movie!

      1. I enjoyed Yesterday- saw it in the theaters and again on DVD again last week. Fun movie.. I like Planet Waves but I wouldn’t consider it a major Dylan album.. 3 1/2 stars!… I don’t think we are the champions was out yet. I had “discovered’ Dylan at that point but hadn’t yet bought Planet Waves..
