Coloring Club Plus — 11/18/19

Nov 18

The Best of Cream:  The Millennium Collection, produced by Bill Levenson @2000 Universal International music.  This compilation contains 11 of their biggest hits, so it was difficult to choose one.

I went with Politician because of so much political chaos around the world right now. Politician was originally on Cream’s third album, Wheels of Fire, released in August 9, 1968 as a two-disc vinyl LP, with one disc recorded in the studio and the other recorded live. It reached number three in the United Kingdom and number one in the United States, becoming the world’s first platinum-selling double album. In May 2012, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 205 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

It was voted number 757 in the third edition of Colin Larkin’s All Time Top 1000 Albums (2000).

It was also released as two single LPs, Wheels of Fire (In the Studio) and Wheels of Fire (Live at the Fillmore), released together with similar cover art. In the UK the studio album art was black print on aluminum foil while the live album art was a negative image of the studio cover. In Japan, the studio album art was black on gold foil while the live album art was black on aluminum foil. In Australia, both covers were laminated copies of the Japanese releases (the double album was never released in Australia).

I went with the youtube of Cream live at Royal Albert Hall, London. November 26th, 1968 (their farewell concert.)

Hey now baby, get into my big black car
Hey now baby, get into my big black car
I wanna just show you what my politics are.

I’m a political man and I practice what I preach
I’m a political man and I practice what I preach
So don’t deny me baby, not while you’re in my reach.

I support the left, tho’ I’m leanin’, leanin’ to the right
I support the left, tho’ I’m leanin’ to the right
But I’m just not there when it’s coming to a fight.

Hey now baby, get into my big black car
Hey now baby, get into my big black car
I wanna just show you what my politics are.

[Goodbye Cream:]

Hey, hey now baby, get into my big black car
Hey now baby, get into my big black car
I wanna just show you what my politics are.

I support the left, tho’ I’m leanin’to the right
I support the left, tho’ I’m leanin’ to the right
But I’m just not there when, when it’s coming to a fight.

Political man and I practice what I preach
Political man and I practice what I preach
But I’m just not there, when you’re in my reach.

Hey now baby, get into my big black car
Hey now baby, get into my big black car
I wanna just show you what my politics are.

Hey, hey, hey
I wanna just show you what my politics are.

  1. Another great choice. Have always loved their creative bent. There were quite a few scandals in the late fifties and early sixties with MPs and call girls, secretaries and so on, the most famous being the Profumo affair.
