“Winter Wonderland” is a song written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard Bernhard Smith. Due to its seasonal theme, it is often regarded as a Christmas song in the Northern Hemisphere. Since its original recording by Richard Himber, it has been covered by over 200 different artists, including Air Supply, Jo Stafford, Doris Day, Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers, Johnny Mathis with Percy Faith and His Orchestra, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, Mannheim Steamroller, Amy Grant, Michael Bublé, The Eurythmics, Selena Gomez, Alan Jackson and Radiohead.
Smith, a native of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, was reportedly inspired to write the lyrics after seeing Honesdale’s Central Park covered in snow. Smith wrote the lyrics while being treated for tuberculosis in the West Mountain Sanitarium in Scranton.
Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We’re happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He’ll say: Are you married?
We’ll say: No man,
But you can do the job
When you’re in town.
Later on, we’ll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we’ve made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he’s a circus clown
We’ll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.
When it snows, ain’t it thrilling,
Though your nose gets a chilling
We’ll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Walking in a winter wonderland,
Walking in a winter wonderland.
Songwriters: BERNARD FELIX / SMITH RICHARD B
I remember this song best by Doris Day, but this is great.

Makes you want to sit next to a fireplace while looking at a Christmas Tree.

I woke up this morning and all of the snow was gone. No tree up here yet and may not be, and no wood for the woodburner 😦

It’s the thought that counts. We have one fireplace in the house and it’s in my music room so it doesn’t get used.
We have a tree…just haven’t put it up yet.

Dang, Max, you need to reorganize your home so you can use the fireplace. I’m thinking of taking the big artificial tree out and setting it up with lights in the carport and calling it good.
