The Czar’s Black Beauty
Butter crinkled platform
A million waterdrop prisms
Beckon bees with nuggets
Pouches burst with pollen
Aerial maneuvers skim grass
Dandelions faces open wonder
Bumble imminent. Then….
Airpuffs lift, gentle grandmothers
She grows from an idea and a miracle
Until one day she’s plucked, ripe, tuned
To a summer’s song – sizzling
In onions, butter, and garlic
Rolling and tumbling with tomatoes
Over a bed of spinach linguini
Golden, tender, and true she offers
Her merried complementing flavor
Sarah is today’s host of dVerse. Sarah says:
So, tonight, I want you to plant in my poetry patch. Take a look at these vegetable names, choose a few, toss them in the rich soil of your imagination, and see what comes up.

Tell you what, I’m stopping and headed to the kitchen to get something to eat. Your piece overcame me, reduced me to my baser instincts; good job.

I love this delicious description of a zucchini plant, Lisa, especially the mouth-watering lines:
‘…she’s plucked, ripe, tuned
To a summer’s song – sizzling
In onions, butter, and garlic
Rolling and tumbling with tomatoes’.
I’ve just had breakfast and I’m longing for dinner!

I can honestly say I’ve never once before seen such a fine poetic tribute to zucchini~nice alliteration. It’s so easy to forget that otherwise droll mundane plants and foodstuffs can take on quite a fine literary appearance

The second stanza is so yummy. You did very well Jade, to suggest a dish while many others stopped at the planting part.

Love it! Despite the stereotype, I’ve never managed to have too much zucchini in my garden!

What stereotype?? That black is beautiful? The name of a horse? The name of the variety of zucchini is Black Beauty. No stereotype was intended here… Thank you for reading and commenting, from one zucchini lover to another :)
