Mama and I one sunny afternoon were climbing in the branches of the pomegranate tree and savoring the sweet juicy fruit when we heard a rustling in the bushes below. Mama carried me on her back to a higher limb and put me on a thick part where I could cling and gave me the sign to wait. She climbed to a lower place, one where I could not see, and waited.
I heard her screech and then the sound of falling through the branches. Voices of the naked apes raised in pitch and then a grating sound that they often made when showing their teeth. Mama continued to screech – until a loud thud and silence. The voices of the naked apes got farther and farther away.
I waited and waited until it got dark, but Mama didn’t come back. I gnawed on a pomegranate and fell asleep in the crook of the tree. The early morning rain woke me up, and I decided to climb down enough to see the ground and look for Mama. I saw a patch of something red on the leaves that the ants and flies crowded around. Was it food for them?
I’m afraid. I’ve never gone this long without feeling Mama’s fur. When will she come back?

Ohh, Li. That’s such a heartbreaking story and a sad reality. How many babies would have lost their mamas forever. Beautifully written

I know, reality is something to be taken in in small doses. These are the stories nobody wants to take in.

When it comes to animals it’s hard to take at times. Humans of course also but most animals are innocent
