The Sunday Muse 155 — Poppy Dreams

Sprouted from a tiny seed
it grew into a grand plan —
sail folded origami
over summer’s verdant land.

Creases folded perfectly
Its nose a consummate point
Now but to wait for warm wind
her realized dream annoint.

Poppies begged her,
Please, do stay!
You’ll ne’er return
if you leave today!”

Wanting to take them with her
she painted Nauty flowered
and swore she’d be back someday
with certainty; with power.

And then she sneezed –
and woke up from her sleep
breathing in the poppy breeze
and weeping for lost dreams.

Carrie (and Shay) is/are today’s host(s) of The Sunday Muse.

  6. I love that opening but rather like Coleridge’s Porlock man, the dream was rudely broken

It’s a weird feeling when that happens! It takes a minute to move fully from dream world to real world!

I feel dumb Lisa…I had to look up origami: the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures…. I’m not going to say what I thought it meant when I first saw it. lol.

LOL, something out of the kama sutra? Imagining creative people folding right now ;) I have a book of origami — not kama sutra! — and have had fun folding paper. It takes concentration to do it well which means your mind gets to be free and having fun.

        Yes something like that!
I did like what you wrote by the way and most important I learned a new word! I’ve seen some cool creations made by folding paper…

BTW… if you don’t mind me asking…I can tell of course that you have a huge interest in that way of life or culture…did you just read about it? I learned about some through George and you expand on it. with some of your posts.

No I’m sorry… About the eastern philosophy. I guess that is the way to put it.

No, I’ve known about the “eastern philosophy” for quite awhile. George never fails to surprise me!

Yes since I followed you I noticed…”tao” of course. What little I know was through the Beatles and then I looked at some from there.

I remember how surprised I was to see the lyrics to one of George’s songs was a direct lift from the Tao Te Ching. A good way to get the word out. I think he mentions something about where it came from in his book, but not by name, iirc.

This is my kind of story. I think that the Poppies begged her right, can’t come back when she’s away. I think she will never dream this dream again although for years I had to recurring dreams. They both stopped without fanfare, it took me some time to realize they weren’t coming anymore.

I’ve been told that dreams are “messages from home” and recurring dreams keep recurring until you “get the message.”
