“Up to Me” is from the Aqualung album. With all of the other great tunes on the album, most reviewers don’t spend much time on it. That’s OK. The lyrics are inventive and build a world like so many of Ian Anderson’s lyrics.
Take her to the cinema
And leave you in a wimpy bar
You tell me that we’ve gone too far
Come running up to me
Make the scene at cousin Jack’s
Leave him to put the bottles back
Mends his glasses that I cracked
Well that one’s up to me, hey
Oh, it’s up to me
It’s up to me
I buy a silver cloud to ride
Pack the tennis club inside
Trouser cuffs hung far too wide
Well it was up to me
Tyres down on your bicycle
Your nose feels like an icicle
The yellow fingered smoky girl
Is looking up to me, yeah
Whoa, you know it’s up to me, yeah
Well I’m a common working man
With a half of bitter-bread and jam
And if it pleases me I’ll put one on you man
When the cupper fades away
Whoa, it’s up to me
Whoa, I said it’s up to me, yeah
The rainy season comes to pass
The day-glo pirate sinks at last
And if I laughed a bit too fast
Well it was up to me
Take you to the cinema
And leave you in a wimpy bar
You tell me that we’ve gone too far
Come running up to me, hey
Whoa, you know it’s up to me, yeah
I said it’s up to me, yeah

Pretty good song! I’m still really liking your coloring pages for the alphabet. 🙂

Another great tune. I think I love that entire album! BTW, I’ve hardly been able to read your and the blogs of other fellow bloggers. Hope to catch up over the weekend!

Yes it is a good tune on a great album. No worries on getting behind on reading. I think it’s the nature of the blogging beast. Thanks for reading and commenting, my friend.

I think the demented laugh adds the perfect touch to this one.

The intro is all I needed to like it. Love how they mesh everything together. I’ve heard this one from my friend…but it’s been a while.

Such a great album, I love every song. Makes me feel quite nostalgic listening now, I was at school when I first got a copy of Aqualung and I still have it

I really don’t remember this one, but I loved listening to it! As for the lyrics, brilliant!

I think it’s overlooked because it’s surrounded by so many other good tunes. Yes on the lyrics!

I didn’t know the song by its title but recognized it as soon as the first notes started playing. There are probably a lot of Tull songs like that. Over the years Jethro Tull has been one of my favorite groups and I’ve listened to them a lot, but many of the songs I don’t know by name.

Arlee, putting these posts together has been an educational experience for me as well. So many albums I hadn’t heard before and kind of wrote off because they were created later.

This is such a unique sound. There is really nothing like them is there? So much rock but not just rock.
