“The proposed monstrosity would snake through 200 pristine lakes and rivers in Northern Minnesota including watersheds for the wild rice that is unique to this part of the world and has been intrinsic to the Anishinaabeg/Ojibwe way of life for centuries. A spill could permanently destroy rice beds as well as the fish and wildlife habitat.”

Also…….. know that Enbridge is trying its BS in Michigan also, and trying to force us to let them rebuild their shabby Line 5 that RUNS UNDER LAKE MICHIGAN!!!!!! Read more here.
Here’s a great op-ed from the Times in a similar vein

My whole body was tingling by the time I finished reading it. Thank Goodness Biden appointed the right person to take a look at. It’s a no-brainer but a matter of the heart. The heart of Our Mother.

I had to read it through twice, and then I cut it out to save it. Such beautiful and true words.

Thank you for sharing. I’ll be getting to the main subject, but I started with the information on pipelines in Michigan. I was thinking, Just shut it down. Take it out of there. Then there was this encouraging news:
NOVEMBER 2020 UPDATE: After a year-long review of the easement that allowed Enbridge to occupy the Great Lakes bottomlands for their oil pipelines, the Department of Natural Resources found several incurable violations of the easement. Governor Gretchen Whitmer just ordered the pipeline to be shut down. Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a legal action in Ingham Circuit Court on Whitmer’s behalf to force the shutdown. Enbridge is allowed 180 days (by May 2021) to arrange an orderly shutdown and the state to ensure a transition for the tiny amount of propane this pipeline does supply to Michigan (1/2 of 1% of the volume carried by Line 5). Enbridge promptly filed a federal lawsuit challenging the shutdown order.
JANUARY 2021 UPDATE 1: Enbridge sends a letter to Gov. Whitmer stating it has no intention of obeying the order.
JANUARY 2021 UPDATE 2: Enbridge is urging the Canadian government and businesses to badger Gov. Whitmer to reverse her Line 5 shutdown order. TAKE ACTION and sign the petition calling on President Biden to use the power of the federal government to fight back.
MARCH 2021 UPDATE: … State reports that if Enbridge still refuses to shut down by May 12, they will be in violation of state law.

Thanks for all of that info, Marleen. I’ve been following it also. One thing Enbridge is saying is that there is an international treaty that says you can’t interfere with “energy production.” I really hope Biden backs Whitmer on this. For all of the treaties we’ve broken over the years, we have finally come up against one that NEEDS to be broken.

On Bear Ears, water, and the women:
Now that [accountability is being] rendered in the George Floyd case, there is hope that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will turn his attention to the social and environmental injustice of Line 3. President Biden should overturn the Army Corp’s permit to Enbridge as he did with the Keystone XL pipeline.
I sure hope so!
