Bones lie where they fell,
bullets long buried silence –
each Spring poppies bloom.
Too many widows
stooped today, wilting at graves —
mourning doves take flight.
Uniformed, each Spring
they march Main in Everytown
trying to forget.

Frank J. Tassone is the host of Haikai Challenge. Frank says:
This week, write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to either Memorial Day or the rainbow (niji).
May we always remember…
I went with humor.
Hope you are well. I’ve been busy.

I’m doing, and doing better with the weather. Busy is good if its doing things that bring you joy. Good to see you. Will check out yours in a sec.

I like the phrase “wilting at graves.” Beautiful image that ties together rainbow (colors, at least) with poppies for Memorial Day.
