I took a walk out back today to take pictures of the ginormous wild rose bushes with their innumerable prickles and ended up taking current pics of the 3 red pine and the 3 baby ginkgo trees and a few other things.
#2 red pine is also growing free form and that’s why I chose this variety of evergreen.
#3 red pine seems to have a traditional growth habit. I wonder if how they grow depends on if they are male or female trees? Further research is needed.
Dora, I feel bad that only 3 survived as 10 sprouted but then were left neglected in small pots in the yard. I should sprout some more and plant a ginkgo forest!
Such a heartening thought, you seeing them everywhere as you travel through the city. We had some old ones Japan gave to a local foundry for their admin office, but of course when the foundry went belly up, they demolished the complex including the trees and built a big box chain and a strip mall. There are a few growing down at a park by the beach. A chain grocery store planted a few when they did a remodel of their building. Other than that there aren’t many in this town.

Those birds are smart… they should be safer with all of that cover and thorns… they just have to learn how to get in and out.

Ginkos are everywhere in the city. They really will grow under almost any conditions. Trees are amazing in all respects. (K)
