She plays moon star sky-chase
’til dawn, then coyote drinks deep.
Her wise open eyes close
to yellow pools in otherworldly
realms; her work begins
as spirit wings wait for her.

I grew up on a farm and slept on the screened in front porch. Those howling coyotes sang me to sleep. Thanks for stirring my memories of them. BTW, one of my shows was to make sure all our free range chickens were locked in the chicken house at night. Invariably the coyotes would find those sleeping outside.

Growing up on a farm put you close to all life not just the humans. I can imagine chickens are easy pickins at night for coyotes. Don’t chickens sometimes roost in the trees to stay safe? (Just what I read.)
