TSM 168 — Home (for Bob Dylan)

Photography by Artist, Jasper James

Slapped by labels, sprinkled with stardust,
and he’s worn the tread off of more than a few
pair of boots. He’s snapped more strings
than gum snapped at a bazooka joe convention.
He’s been spelled by potions and powders,
fondled by hungry groupies, and chiseled by
more than a few managers. He’s had new loves,
breakups, cat fight jealousies, and regroups.
He croons to soothing clickety-clack
in his sleep as he goes from town to town.
He can’t remember how long it’s been since
he’s been home. He carries her in his soul
like a turtle carries home; it’s all the way down.

The figure in the photo looks like a young Bob Dylan to me, which is why my poem is in honor of him.

Carrie is today’s host of The Sunday Muse.

This is incredible—especially your line breaks and sound. It was definitely written to be read aloud.

Mr. Zimmerman and I turn 80 this year! What a journey it’s been, for Robert and for Helen. His music is magic.

Helen, that is terrific that you and Zimmy are same age, I take that as a good sign for both of you. I’m glad you’re a fan of his music, he’s given a lot of joy to the world over time — and is still going strong, just like you! <3

I suggest you choose something you really want to draw. Have you decided what you want to draw? Once you decide that just go to youtube and put “draw _______ tutorial” in the search box. It should give you some options.

Bob Dylan was born in May 1941 so in 1966 he would have been 25. I am not familiar with this song but do know a lot of them.

Oh, I love what this poem says and the rhythm you written into it. Love Bob Dylan. Of all places he has chosen Tulsa, Oklahoma for his museum. I guess it makes sense because its right down the street from one of his biggest influences, Woody Guthrie. Can’t wait to go visit it when it opens.

Thank you so much, Susie :) I had no idea he was building a museum and am taken aback by the location but when you say it’s near Woody I understand. Is there a museum for him there also? When is Bob’s supposed to open? OK is a fer piece from here!

Lovely–the contrast between what is worn away and what is protected…this makes me wonder if the songs are a place to conceal an idea or another layer to be given away.

I definitely feel like I’m sitting in a cafe right now with a beret tilted on my head, then when you’re done reading, we all snap our fingers.
And I love love love the last line: “He carries her in his soul

Omg, you’re a fricking mind reader, Li !!!!
Thank you so much for asking.
I was just talking to my husband THIS MORNING saying I was thinking of combining book III and IV just into book III because it’s taking SO LONG to get them out–I kinda want it to be over.
As for book II….. it’s delayed till next year now, due to COVID.
But I do appreciate your curiosity. Thank you.
