In his eyes he’s a clown,
the one who makes them laugh,
makes them forget their flaws,
their worries, at least for awhile.
He is the scapegoat who makes
everyone feel good about themselves.
In their eyes, he’s a cheap thrill
A buffoon in make-up and big shoes
who’s lucky they are so generous
with their laughter.
Anyone can do his job.
He’s quickly forgotten
as they leave the tent.
In her eyes, he’s a sad sack
laughing on the outside but
she knows different. She
knows because she’s spurned
his unwavering, desperate love
for forever. “What idiot
would put up with my cruelty
for a decade?” she asks her
chubby bearded face in the mirror.
But in Buddy’s eyes, there now
is another matter. Buddy sits
and stays. Buddy listens.
Buddy knows everything.
To Buddy, he is a god –
and living proof god exists.

This week’s offering is an artwork in the “naive” style by artist Guido Vedovato. This one is entitled “Self-Portrait With Accordion.” Take a look, write a poem, link, visit, enjoy!

Buddy sees past the flaws, and loves him still. Buddys are funny that way.

You capture the carnival feel of life, its thrills and its gutting disappointments, and also the glow of a disinterested love that is absolute. Perspective is everything here.
