dVerse — Poetics — To Everything…

monarch butterly caterpillar 072321

‘Twas born a wiggling speck upon a weed,
a green, propelling squirm with hungry need.
Her yellow sun stripes black yet guileless greed,
compelled, refreshed along her mystery.
A burgeoned girth, her tummy gives a burp
and out her ass a silver-threaded mirth.
She spins with glee; soon glows a carapace —
she sleeps with tiny smiling buddha face.
She dreams through fall and winter, til the Spring.
She wakes, with sunlight calling to her wings.

I’d like you to consider one of the adages/proverbs listed below as inspiration for your poem.
•“Many hands make light work.” Adagia
•“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Poor Richard’s Almanack
•“Fish and visitors stink after three days.” Poor Richard’s Almanack
•“To err is human, to repent divine, to persist devilish.” Poor Richard’s Almanack
•“Things are not always what they seem.” Bee-Keeper and the Bees” from Aesop’s Fables
•“The truth shall set you free.” John 8:32
•“To everything there is a season.” Ecclesiastes 3:1
•“Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get.” Forrest Gump, the movie.

Wonderful poem inspired by the biblical phrase. Knew as soon as I saw the illustration which line you’d chosen…..and wrote so very well from.
These lines had me chuckle out loud:
“A burgeoned girth, her tummy gives a burp
and out her ass a silver-threaded mirth.”
The burp especially! I can just see it in a Disney animation….the tummy and hear the burp! :)
