Something that has been happening enough to have me here, now, writing this post, is the matter of the disappearing comments. Here is how it goes:
- Someone makes a comment on my post.
- I comment back to them and it automatically “likes” their comment when I hit send.
- No “underlined replied” shows up.
- I go to my post to see if my return comment showed up. It didn’t.
- I retype my comment there at the post. When I hit send, this message shows up: “Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!”
- Yet it never “took” or showed up the first time, so it never shows up.
I don’t want people to think I’m ignoring them. The “like” does transfer and show up, but the comment doesn’t.
Is anyone else having this issue?
UPDATE at 9:25pm. I just checked my spam folder for the first time in what seems like months. There were between 400-500 spams in there. Going through with bulk delete, I came across maybe 10 valid ones from (as I can remember): Neil, Christian, Reena, Tzvi, and some others. My apologies, but they were comments on random posts and once I approve them very difficult to hunt them down and reply to them.
I did get an email back from WP happiness engineers but I haven’t had time to get back with them. I do know they asked me about what was in my spam folder which is why I went there and found all of them. Now I have the answer to that question to email back to them. Hoping they can get this issue sorted out. Will do another update as events unfold.

In the app, I have a bunch of comments that I made, marked as spam from anonymous. The real comments, from me, are in the right place. The app won’t let me delete them. But they aren’t in the browser spam folder, so again, it’s a stupid app glitch!

Jen, I don’t use an app either. This is on my desktop computer. I just went back and looked at just one of my posts and see at least half of my comments are not there. This is a major “f-up” on WP’s part that I should have noticed how bad it was a long time ago.

Sorry, Lisa, that sounds like a frustrating glitch. I haven’t noticed it on my end (yet).
I recall a couple of months ago comments went crazy. You started writing a comment to a post and all for a sudden ended up in the comments section of a fellow blogger!
I guess every now and then the WP platform has some glitches. Did you bring it to their attention directly?

I’ve noticed that about the comments also. They must have ramped the spam folder detection to a higher level.
I just went to my spam and yes…I have 10 recent comment…from people who always comment..

This pisses me off…all of those people probably think I’m ignoring them. Thanks for saying something…I noticed a little…people not responding…now I know why.

I’m about to email WP back now as they also wanted a specific post as example, so I found one where it happened a lot. Will keep you posted. I am feeling the same way, not a good feeling for others to think you’re ignoring them :(

Oh I got the email all ready to go and cc’d both myself and you on it, but outlook keeps saying “can’t send your message now” and that is frigging irritating.

I’m having trouble leaving comments sometimes. I also get the duplicate comment message on occasion. Some blogs won’t let me comment on their site at all, but I can comment if I go to the post in my reader.
Also some posts never show up in my reader at all. Bot I expect constant problems, although I still get annoyed.

I have the disappearing comments in the notifications bar. If I foolishly look at them with my phone, then intend to respond to them with my computer, too bad, so sad… they’re gone. So if I remember seeing, say, your name, I have to go to your blog post and find your response to my comment. On mine, I can find but on anyone else’s? Not so much.
WP is a major pain in my ass sometimes. My Trash and Spam? Bloody hell! Every day, if I make the mistake of not clearing them? I just checked. I forgot to clean them out.. 504 Trash and 1,062 spam. Sorry my peeps with the legitimate comments that landed in spam… I have to flush en masse because I am not going through 54 pages of spam! I don’t know what the hell I did to get so many but it’s infuriating.

It is disappointing and irritating, isn’t it. Seems like they could do better than they do with the spam.

I notice when I connect through to the app from an email the like function doesn’t work or freezes the site from loading. So I never like via the app. I also found that I have to wait an inordinately long period of time after I hit send or else the comment disappears never to be seen again. I have to keep the screen open after sending and not back out or close it off, otherwise the comment is lost. It is frustrating.
Occasionally I find commenters in the spam folder and retrieve them. So I check it every week or so just in case. Hope your glitches sort out soon.
