Yesterday was one of the happiest days of my life. I met with my sons, daughter in-law, and almost-2-years-old granddaughter at Meijer Gardens where we spent about 3 hours together, wandering around the place. Not only does it have sculpture installed throughout the inside and outside of the place, there are galleries with special guest artist exhibits. Some of you remember when Ai Weiwei and other superb artists were there and I shared pics. The exhibit going on now is so fascinating, as well as environmentally informative in poignant and poetic ways. Titled,
Double Take: Mel Chin & Elizabeth Turk
It is a multi-media experience. Learn more about it here. I took a few pics but there were lots of things I didn’t snap pics of. You can see more at the website, as well as learning about the two featured artists.

In addition to the special artist exhibit, I also took a few pics of some of the other art here and there.

I couldn’t find a name for the sculptures above and below but they’ve been there since the beginning. Next time I go I’ll look for a plaque for name of sculptures and the artist. I love these critters!

I didn’t take a bunch of flower pics this time, was having too much fun with the grandbaby.

It sounds like you had a great day out! I’m so happy for you! Xx

Yes they are, Paula, and pictures don’t do them justice. That spider reminds me of the old Jonny Quest show.

I’ve never seen anything like that red, white, and blue plant. It looks like something that would appear on an alien planet in Star Trek. Love the wall art also.
Glad you had a great Saturday Lisa!

IIRC that plant blossoming was in the arid garden, and it is so neat looking agree. Thank you, Max, I did. It was the first time I saw the baby arrive not in her stroller, which is how she was able to run towards me. A high point in the day. A high point in my life ❤

Great pics Lisa … so glad you had some quality time with them! But no pics of your loved ones 😦
Ready to make you a bag … am making 3 sizes now so can I email you some samples and ask for colour preference?

Thank you, Kate! I always take pics of the family but I’ve been forbidden from sharing them on social media. They don’t any pics of the baby out floating around. Can’t say that I blame them either in this digital world we live in. Yes on emailing! My email address: ms_jade_li@hotmail.com and any shade or shades of green mixed with straw/tan and/or blue would be my preference 🙂

ok I do get that about posting children’s pics … I follow one blogger who constantly posts photos of her grandies and it does concern me.
Nice choice of colours and easy to do as they’re also favourites of mine 🙂

Back in our day pics were hard copies or nothing. Nowadays digitals are forever. Happy you like those colors in both respects 🙂

Glad you spent a great time with your family. Your pictures are nice as well. In general, I enjoy sculptures, especially if they’re abstract. While I’m definitely not an expert, my favorite sculpture artist I’ve seen to date is Henry Moore. I also like the work by Alexander Calder and Amedeo Modigliani.

No Modigliani there but there is a Rodin:

And DaVinci’s horse(s) (one small and one BIG): https://www.meijergardens.org/explore/leonardo-da-vincis-horse
The sculptures are actually done by Nina Akamu, but they are based on drawings done by DaVinci.
Bottom line: you’d go ga-ga over this place.

I can only imagine that your eyes teared up a little when that toddler started running toward you! Awwwww. That would stay in my memory forever too.
I love this kind of art ’cause it forces my brain, which doesn’t easily take to the more “modern” stuff, to shift and bend and stretch. And as someone once said: long ligaments means long life. So I assume that means our “brain” ligaments too!

Kerfe there were some other very interesting ones in that exhibit. One of the artists had what looked like a bunch of different sized plates stacked tall, with spaces in between. We learned that those represented the sound waves of endangered or extinct bird species. What a shock to learn what they were.
I am too with the family time. The baby running to me and smiling just about made my heart take flight.
