They had a one night stand 20 years ago and became friends instead of continuing the romance.  He moves away from CA to NYC and has done very well financially as a consultant.  He’s also a commitment-phobic who has been through a string of gorgeous girlfriends who never last more than 6 months.  She, who has always dreamed of being an editor, decides to marry an adventurer and have a kid.  The adventurer leaves on an adventure and doesn’t return.  She decides to put her dreams away and build a stable, secure, and safe home for her son, Jack, who is now a young teen (guessing on his age, but I think he’s in middle school.)

She works at the school in accounting and decides to take a week-long class in NYC to upgrade her job skills, degree, and pay grade and arranges to have her thespian friend spend the week with Jack, but the friend cancels at the last minute.  She texts him to say she’s canceling the class, and, since he’s between contracts he insists she does not cancel it; he will fly out to CA and watch Jack and stay in her place and she can take the class and stay at his place.

And so begins this wonderful Rom Com story.  I’ve liked Ashton Kutcher since That 70’s Show and recently saw him in a serious role in the excellent, “Vengeance.”  I’ve also like anything I’ve seen Reese Witherspoon in, even though I can’t think of any titles right now.  Rom coms are not my preferred genre of movie but they’re ok once in awhile.  I decided to give this one a chance — and I’m glad I did.  It’s light-hearted and delightful every step of the way.  Probably most importantly it is a movie with heart without taking itself too seriously.  There is an underlying message in it that I’m pretty sure will resonate with at least some.  I won’t give away any spoilers.

I like both Kutcher and Witherspoon… Sweet Home Alabama is what I remember Witherspoon the most in. Looks like a fun Rom Com.

I like that movie (even though I think it’s a little messed up). I also liked Legally Blonde.

He’s a pretty prominent part of the movie. Maybe this one will change your mind about him?

I enjoyed it, too. Took me a second to recognize Ashton with that way-too angular face. I loved that it wasn’t sappy and of course we know how it will end before it really starts but it didn’t matter. I love their 20-year friendship and how this switch of homes broadens both of their horizons. Reese was the Academy award winner for “Walk the Line” playing June Carter Cash 😉

Glad you saw it and liked it. Yes he has that angular jaw, but that’s OK with me. He’s a hotty to me and we already know he likes Cougars 😉 Yes on what you saw in it. Ah, that may be where I saw her before but not sure. Looks like she’s resisted plastic surgery also, which is a big plus in my book.

I always thought he was a hotty (I loved That 70’s Show, too) – just felt he had lost a lot of weight.
She was also in Sweet Home Alabama and that one, something Blonde?
Yes, she definitely hasn’t needed it.
