Cool autumn air
sweetens backyard apples
deer midnight snacks
Tinged pear foliage
against mackerel cloud sky
contemplates texture
Crows harass scarecrow
my lantern touches the moon
to the whoosh of wings
Sulphur cosmos sway
hummingbirds hover with bees
autumn’s soft, warm stage
Egret’s still white dots
on early autumn’s green screen
nature’s pause button
First, I went to my favorite kigo site and made a list of them I liked and built the haiku (and micropoetry) from them.
Autumn air
autumn color
mackerel clouds
flower garden
lantern
scarecrow
contemplation
deer midnight apples
egrets still hunt in Michigan ponds
sulphur cosmos
hummingbirds and honeybees

Oh, my goodness… I love them all! Fabulous haiku, Lisa. I like using the kigo words for inspiration. It’s like consulting the Oracle (magnetic poetry) or using word lists to find inspiration. I can’t wait to share the 24 forms and the 24 seasons! Thanks so much, Lisa.

Ange, thank you. There’s a lot going on in every season, but fall more than most, I think. It’s all happening at once.

Excellent! Of course my first immediate favorite is the crows–and a moon too! (K)

Nice! Autumn will be here before we know it! While Labor Day isn’t the end of summer, the official end (September 23) is only one month out.

Thanks, Christian, and yes. Isn’t the 21st the changeover of seasons? What, does it fall on a weekend or something so they changed it?

Sat, Sep 23 is what comes up in Google as the end of summer.😀

Ah, so Google is telling us when our holidays will fall now. Why doesn’t that surprise me :(

Thank you :) Max, the weather is still hot but getting cooler at night, which makes me happy. Autumn is my favorite season also. I’m going to try making zucchini and tomato salsa today. Wish me luck!

I wish you luck! My gumbo turned out great. I’m still eating it for lunch. I’m looking forward to autumn…although this has been a mild summer over all for us.

Really beautiful. It’s a little shocking to think of Autumn right now when we are 105 degrees, but it does depend on where we live! You were able to use a lot of kigo for your inspiration!

I can’t decide whether the 2 birds in the main photo are real or not. 🤓 What do you think?

Oh, they are real. I took the pic. They stand still so the fish/frogs forget they are there :)

“mackerel cloud sky” what a cool description.

Thank you, Melissa. I think that is an existing term for a type of cloud and what I saw in the sky seemed to fit it.
