Writober Days 9-11, Owl Mask Shadow: Mother Night

Mother Night

Mother Night, a gliding owl,
silent in her shadow mask;
message sought from down below.

Tuck in for the night and ask
wingspan’s breadth to silhouette,
silent in her shadow mask.

Honey marble full and wet
whispers guidance of the way;
wingspan’s breadth to silhouette.

Mission end ‘ere light of day,
wings in earnest, eyes are sharp,
follows guidance of the way.

Shining symbols, gleaming sparks
plucked from depths of cobalt sea;
wings return from where embarked.

Answered to a bedtime plea,
plucked from depths of cobalt sea,
Mother Night, a gliding owl,
message gift from down below.

Note:  Mother Night is a term used by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola-Estes to talk about the dream world.  Top image is from her website.

A bit tweaked terzanelle form.

    A surreal poem, in between waking and sleeping. I enjoyed it immensely

      Thank you, Sadje. It took me awhile to remember how to write this form, even with directions.

    Mother Night is such a great combination of our prompts. It a great link for “Veil” as well. I like your form choice for this nocturnal journey.

    I especially like these lines:
    “Shining symbols, gleaming sparks
    plucked from depths of cobalt sea;”
    –that’s exactly what it feels like sometimes. (K)

      Thank you, Kerfe. Yesterday, at dream group, in a bit of synchronicity, Trish had her copy of Mother Night in plain view on a shelf. My eyes glommed right onto it :)
