Remember yesterday with the amusing turkey video? Remember how nice and fall-like it was? Remember the tire blow-out and the new tire on order and the donut?
I did not want to drive on the donut as the guy at the tire shop said don’t go over 50mph on it. But I had a massage appointment scheduled, my last one with this masseur. Got up this morning and saw it had started to snow a little, just sputters, and thought oh, no big deal. By the time I left (a half hour early, so I could take the back roads to the place) there were large snowflakes falling. It went from there to a royal blizzard. The massage was an hour and it took maybe a half hour to get there but it took 90 minutes to get home! There were rollovers and accidents all over the place and I literally had to turn around twice to find another way because of detours upon detours because of road work. Cmon people the road work season should be over! I got home 3 hours after I left. It was the worst driving day in my almost 50 years of driving, and with that crappy little donut on my car! Needless to day, the new tire is not here yet and who knows when it will get here.
On top of that the trees out front’s limbs are so heavy with the snow they may snap off. And! there were two “flash power outages” here today. Just enough to shut the computer down and reset the clocks. I keep getting texts from Consumers Energy saying they have crews assigned and expect power to be restored by noon tomorrow. Thank goodness my power is still on! Please let tonight keep the power on and tomorrow bring the new tire and a major melt. Snow never stays on the first snowfall, but I have to wonder if this one will.
On the bright side, I got all of the houseplants inside so none froze.
One more thing: I had the “Hackney Diamonds” with me today. YES! Got to listen to it twice through.

I’m glad you made back safe and sound. And your plants are good too.

What did you think of the new Sones effort?

Paul, have listened to it twice through so far and am really liking what I hear. It goes back to their earlier roots, both with the Flowers and Let It Bleed times. You probably already know that Macca plays a mean bass on one of the tunes, “Bite My Head Off” and I believe it is Keith singing on “Tell Me Straight.” Lady Gaga sings backup on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” These guys are still in top form. They set the bar for staying fresh as octogenarians <3

Yes, they give me a sense of hope. I’m glad to hear that it is good, I’ve been holding off, too busy to even sample on itunes.

Paul, what’s keeping you so busy??

Mostly my role as a spiritual director, independent, I have a number of clients, writing (of course) teaching, all part-time but it adds up I guess, all good. :)

That is awesome! Well not you driving in it but I would love a snow like that. I don’t have to worry about road conditions…I won’t drive on it because down here…our road crews dont’ know what they are doing so our roads are terrible in snow and ice…but we get mostly ice.

My son lives maybe 10 minutes from where he works. It took him 90 minutes to get home yesterday. What a cl*sterf*ck! People trying to ram around on glare ice or the opposite extreme going 5 mph and causing crackups also. Yesterday they should have sent everyone home. Now we have these ongoing mini power outages all day yesterday and today. Just letting the digital clocks flash now. Michigan is usually prepared for heavy winter weather, but just not now! The snow is sticking but the sun is melting some. I got out there with the broom and helped the pine get some of that heavy stuff off their branches. More limbs broke off the willows out front. Poor trees are on their last legs. To where you are a snowstorm is a novelty so of course it’s awesome lol

LOL…I know I know! I do love snow. In the seventies and eighties we would have a 5-8 inch snows at least twice a winter…sometimes more. I remember being off an entire month of school. The school would reopen within two weeks but the bus could not make it down my road for two weeks after that.

How wonderful for you to have a whole month off from school in winter!

That storm came out of nowhere, well the sky actually but much worse than predicted. Trees here still have a lot of leaves and with that heavy snow branches are breaking off everywhere. Glad you made it safe and sound!

Randy, it sounds like you all got hit with it as well. Yes, the front willows have some limbs broken off and the pine had boughs almost to the ground. Thankfully I helped clear them of snow and they bounced back up. Thank you for the well-wishing. It is a miracle I was able to get around all of those obstacles to home. I was beginning to wonder if I would!

Fresh snow is beautiful. It’s dirty snow that’s yucky.

Wow! So much snow so early – it’s not even winter yet! Hope it clears out soon and you can get your tire fixed. :)

Yes and it is melting a little. Forecast says it will be in the 40s and 50s all week so probably will melt. Yes on the tire. I called the place today and nobody answered the phone!

Other bloggers in your neck of the woods have noted the surprise and severity of the storm. Yikes! I’m glad you were not one of those involved in an accident. And good thinking on the houseplants. (K)

Usually it’s a transition but this slammed us bad. Especially with so many roads still cut off with detours. It was a right mess yesterday. Still don’t have my tire, which is a little concerning. Internet has been patchy all day and my son said his is totally out and both are major internet companies. On top of that I have gotten no less than 15 texts from power company saying they are working on the outages. My power keeps going on and off. It really feels like a taste of the end times. For now the plants are safe anyway, and now I have a carport full of wood to burn if I have to.

Con Ed does that to us too. They have currently cut off the dryers in our laundry room for some bizarre reason. My super was ranting about it this morning…I guess I’ll just wash the necessities and hang them in my bathroom to dry. At least the heat is on for a change…

Thank goodness you are warm <3 Are you saying Con Ed has the power to cut off the dryers in your building? If so, that is friggin scary.

I don’t understand it–I asked the management company a number of questions about it and got nothing as an answer–just “we’re working on it”. My super said “Con Ed does what it wants”. I think that’s true, but if I had some kind of real information I could call our city council member–she loves to fight these kinds of things.
