Night’s Possessions
Black velvet veiled, bright visitor alights
slipping through slats, staining them; white
eerie eyeball, entering my musings
as a large leering (lunatic perhaps?)
Incensed at her ingress, ill-prepared
to defend my dreams, indubitably I resist.
I love you, my lovely; but Luna, they’re mine.

today I want you to try your poetic skills in writing alliterative verse.

Clever play with words: lunatic and Luna. Love all the alliteration here.

That’s lillian….not anonymous – forgot to put in my name!

Thanks much, Lillian. You almost have to get clever to make the alliteration work, at least for this newbie to the form.

:) I’ve been trying to get a pic of the moon shining through the blinds for awhile. I really had no idea where this poem was going.

Well-done, Lisa. But “white eerie eyeball” got my attention! 🙂

Thanks, Merril! I wasn’t sure whether to have it end with the line or enjamb it into the next. I think it works both ways.

I think we sense light even when we don’t “see” it. In this case, it feels like an invasion. (K)

I think you’re right! I didn’t see it but I felt it, flipped over, and grabbed the phone.

Carol Anne, I’ve had this pic for a few days and wanted to use it for a poem. When I saw Bjorn’s prompt I knew it would be the subject of it.

Lovely, Li. :)
Even the opening lines are excellent, I think you’ve done double alliterations. :)

Talk about alliteration … eerie eyeballs set the stage for everything wonderfully clever that followed. Cheers. I am listening to the music as I type my comment. LOVE IT.

Helen glad you connected with the poem and the music. They make a good duo I think.

Ah, it’s that old stalker, Luna, “white/eerie eyeball, entering my musings”! Tension-fragught, but at the end, what a gentle rejection of her intrusion: “I love you, my lovely; but Luna, they’re mine.” Loved it, Lisa!

Thanks for adding me to your index. Will you please edit my name in there? My name is Ms Jade Li, not M.S. jadeli. You can just put in there as Jade Li also. Thanks much.
I had no idea there was a website devoted to alliterative verse. Very cool :)
