Portal
On our daily lunch walk, we passed a faerie tree.
Most people regard faeries as Tom-thumb-sized sprites who flit meadows and ponds like fireflies. Some know that faeries have mischievous spirits, so it’s best not to antagonize them thus earning their ire.
“Dale, stop a minute. I want to snap a pic.”
As I did, Dale noticed something.
“Look!”
She was pointing to a shadow at the tree’s crook.
It wasn’t a stain. A human form was sliding down the bark, until it disappeared into what I can only guess was a soul portal.
Another faerie fact worth noting!

Love it. Plus, you made Dale a girl so, that’s always a plus ;-) And usually, it’s me making people stop whilst I take photos ;-)

Dale is you in the story. Imagining us taking a walk together :)

I didn’t dare assume… ;-) Love it. We would be stop and go all the way! Oh look! Wait. Gotta snap this! Did you see that?

Yes! That mark on the tree looks like a monkey to me. LOL! 😂

Maybe it’s a monkey soul? ;)

Ohhh… could be. Faeries are shape-shifters, so that would make sense too!

So very cool! This reminds me of a movie we happened on the other night, quite a bizarre version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a B&W oldie with a young Mickey Rooney as a faerie! Great story, Lisa!

Mickey Rooney as a faerie, that’s priceless! It’s possible I saw that as a kid and tucked it away in my memory banks? Was Mickey a villain faerie in it?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Haha! No, he was the mischievous Puck but surely not a villain. It was a very trippy movie!

Sounds like it, Nancy. Did you ever see the Twilight Zone episode he was in, where he was in a room and grew bigger and bigger? That was a trip also.

Yikes! No … I’m sure I would have remembered that one! My hubs is a TZ fan, more than me; I’ll have to ask him if he remembers.

Max, at PowerPop blog (my best blogging buddy) wrote up every single episode of it. Here’s the write-up and a clip. S5 E5:

After reading that, I have to watch the episode. I never really cared for Mickey Rooney as a child actor; I found him obnoxious and unattractive. However, his acting skills were impressive, especially when he got older and was faced with playing desperate characters such as this one.

Quite a mystical tale! A soul portal is an interesting concept… “to be continued”?

Thanks, Steve. I think when we leave our bodies our souls have to go somewhere, and what’s the route? Why the heck not faeries as the keepers of the portal? ;) Not sure if it will be continued. You never know…

Why the heck not, indeed!

I love the faerie theme, and now I am going have to do some research on soul portals! Looking forward to going down that rabbit hole (or is it a faerie hole?) – thank you!

I think if it is your imagination, it is a “group hallucination” that others have also “imagined” including me. I have a picture of an old tree that I swear looks like a person climbing out of it.

Great use of the prompt. I like the idea of a ‘soul portal’ – and the way an everyday ‘lunchtime walk’ turns into something otherworldly. Well told.

Every lunchtime walk should turn into something worldly whether something worldy actually happens or we let our imaginations run. I love that you pulled Dale into the story. You two would have so much fun snapping photos!
