Moon Never Boos
Moon never boos night;
two partners who share.
Night is jealous of sun’s
half-time of blue sphere.
Shadow sneaks into day
as things turn and sway,
moving to light’s rhythm,
slow-motion choreograph.
Sun rings mates to flicker
twinkling night, water, bright,
perpetual balancing game.

Oh, I love the tipping balance of this! “Moon Never Boos” is such a fun title!

Those first two lines!! What a delightful poem, Lisa. Last night was the first full moon I’ve seen in a clear sky for months!

Thanks, Colleen! We had a heavy thunderstorm in Grand Rapids as we were leaving the library and the sky was cloudy here when I got back. No moon last night in sight. Boo :(

No thunderstorms for us, but I was so thankful for the rain.

you introduced a very interesting concept with the sun and the moon being in a sort of competition. They seem to be portrayed as going together but what if they don’t want it to be that way?

Christine, thanks! I could be wrong, there might be myths out there that have them in competition. Will try to find out. I see the moon as the great mediator.

“twinkling night, water, bright…” I really like the internal rhyme scheme. It just gives that final stanza a little bit of fun. Thanks so much. This was great.

Maybe it’s the photo of the moon shadows, but I can imagine bare branches of trees swirling around in the moonlight, and dappled shadows in the sunlight. I enjoyed your poem. :)

Barbara, it was probably all of those things. I like how you imagined it. Thank you :)
