Bike Ride Sunday 102725

Halloween decorations displayed in the house as of yesterday.

My friend and I decided to take a bike ride, probably our last one of the year.  Temp was in mid-50’s, wind 12 mph, sunny,  but not sunny under the trees.  In summer the shade of trees is welcomed; just the opposite in non-summer.  I wish I would have worn gloves.  We started in Cedar Springs, which is impressive in its number of parking lots near the bike path, brand new bathroom facilities, and the large, friendly Cedar Springs Brewing Company right there for before or after drinks and food.  We didn’t go to it this time, but twice before on the Bike Path Riders Michigan Halloween Rides we stopped there.  We headed south, to Rockford, MI, which is a quaint little place with lots of shops, a stage and band shelter, two dams, and a lovely winding trail along the river.  Where Cedar Springs was deserted, except for the pub, in and near Rockford, we saw several people walking, biking, pushing strollers, walking pets, and generally having a good time in the area near the river and the dam.  We also saw multiple kayaking groups in the water and observed liftoff of groups of Canadian geese that flew closely over our heads as they got away from the kayakers.

Speaking of birds, we saw gulls and Canadian geese sharing space further up river, a Bald Eagle perched in a tree, and a hawk land on a power pole.

We rode a total of 15 or so miles.  In some areas it was slow going with all of the people on the trail.  It is very good to see so many people using it.  We were also wrapped up in our conversations so that didn’t help our speed.  Neither one of us wanted to go fast, and that is my ideal riding partner.

There is a stained glass store along the trail and I walked over to look at their wares. Imagine my delight when I saw the spooky one.

One of the highlights of our ride was seeing a Halloween photo shoot in the sheltered stage area.  I am guessing it was for social media in some format.  It was fun to watch them, even though they were only there for a few minutes.  Maybe The Pumpkin Girls were traveling around the area and getting shots in various locations.

We were tired by the time we got back.  It was a beautiful day to be out and about.  I will end this post with a little video I made the other day.  Actually these skellies are also part of the decorations I have out for my favorite holiday.

Are you excited for Halloween?

That sounded like a really nice day to get out on the bike! I enjoyed the photos of the scary stained glass and the pumpkin head girls. Those little skeletons! Love them. I have the same one on the right. That other one was way more energetic! and cool music, too. :)

Barbara, it was a perfect day in every way. Glad you enjoyed the highlights. Cool on one of the skellies. Yes, not sure why one was dancing so much more than the other. Maybe it had been out partying the night before ;) Thanks much <3

There was the cutest little baby girl who had just learned to walk. She, her parents, and their what looked like a coon hound were walking all over. Some older people toddling along the boardwalks also. Yes, love to see people out and about, talking about nothing, or saying nothing at all.

Thanks much, Christian. It was. White Pine Trail is a gorgeous path. It’s a rail to trail so mostly straight and flat, but that’s ok when you are in conversation while pedaling.

The Pumpkin Girls photoshoot intrgued me. Maybe next year I’ll grab a pumpkin head and go around to different places and get Mrs. B to photograph my visits. The dancing skellies are awesome, and definitely have all the right moves.

It was good timing for us. We were taking a break at the right place at the right time. If you do, will you wear black print stockings, black boots, and a mini skirt?

Sounds like a fun day and ride! Here, the Canada geese have mostly left to go south, so they are making their way down already. Pretty amazing.

For, me the best part of Hallowe’en is seeing how excited the grandkids get.

Steve, I was kind of surprised to see the geese and the gulls grouped together on the river. This is pretty far inland for gulls. What have your temps been like? We have had one overnight frost but it was an isolated incident. We’re going to a big party for the kids downtown on Thursday. Can’t wait to see all of the kids in costumes.

We’ve had quite a few nights of frost and a few moderate days, Lisa, but mostly cool now, ranging from below freezing at night to around 7 C (45 F) by day, and dropping as we go forward. It’s definitely autumn!

And I thought most of our Canada geese had left but there was a large gaggle assembling near the school one of our grandsons attends yesterday when we walked him there. I don’t think I’ve seen them mix with gulls before… that would look cool.
