I remember getting nominated for a lot of these kinds of awards when I first started blogging. It’s been awhile! Steve at Steve for the Deaf has honored me today. Thank you, Steve!
Steve’s Questions for me:
-
If you in life had a theme song that played wherever you go, what would it be and why?
The theme song for Northern Exposure, one of the best TV shows of all time. Every time I hear it I’m transported to that remote little berg of a community, sitting in Roslyn’s, shooting the sh*t with Holling and Shelly and listening to Dr. Fleishman whining about something.
-
Have you ever pretended to have read a famous book and now it’s gone too far to admit you haven’t, especially as you saw the film and got the gist?
NEVER. There are too many famous books out there, never enough time to read them or the not famous ones. My question to this question is why would I? Who would I be trying to impress?
-
If you were signalling to the people who know you best from another plane, what would your signal be?
(eye) (heart) (point at them) Granddaughter and I do this every time we part and have since she was a baby. My sons and my daughter in-law would also understand it. These are the people who know me best.
-
Have you ever lied to a total stranger just because you knew you’d never see them again?
Yes. Stalkerish types I’ve come across in bars and other places.
-
Queen or ABBA? Show your workings.
Brian May and Freddie Mercury vs. the 4 pop blondies? No contest.
-
What’s your absolute favourite fiction novel, and why?
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk. A kid who grows up with a psycho mother; a kid who grows up into a sex addict, who decides to go cold turkey (no, it’s not a euphemism for a freaky sex act!,) and works a minimum wage job at an historical village and is best friends with a guy who collects large rocks — and who has to grift off of strangers to keep his nutzoid mother in the finest psych unit in town. What’s not to love about it?
-
Will you celebrate when it happens?
Oh HELL YEAH. I’m going to buy a bottle of Tequila Rose and drink the whole thing on the rocks. Depending on season and time of day, if it’s summertime and at night, I will go skinny dipping in Lake Michigan and howl at the moon.
-
When was the last time you changed your mind about something important? What did it cost you?
Accused of using AI, I chose to withdraw the poem from publication. It cost me nothing, and it saved my literary integrity as I was asked to edit my work and refused.
-
Did you ever surprise yourself by trying something totally unlike you, just once, to see whether you liked it?
I tried singing karaoke in a crowded bar full of total strangers to a song I was sure I knew the lyrics to – but didn’t. Heart pumping, blundering through, totally embarrassed. Not a ringing endorsement for trying something totally unlike me – usually mortified in a crowd of strangers. I did not like it at all.
-
Ozzy or Dio?
Ozzy because Dio is someone mostly unfamiliar to me.
-
If we’re going to a Halloween party together what costumes are you picking for us both?

Who0oo whooo Li, Love your answers.. save a glass of rose for me!!! Love you with-drawling that poem and standing your ground!!! I’m right there with you❣️

Kind of boring, but there it is. (K)

K, thanks for playing along. I would love to not need a car. It costs a fortune, and with gas prices rising, even more so.

I don’t know how anyone affords it these days.

From what I have read of your work Lisa I think it much more likely AI is using you rather than the other way around.

Randy, exactly! That is the conclusion I drew from the one line of the poem that was suspected of being AI. I had used it before just generally (Every Tuesday I go to Meijer Gardens to meet my family) (paraphrasing) and I think AI scraped it from the blog. Thank you for your vote of confidence. It is very much appreciated <3

Thanks for such great answers Li. I’ve read that book too. I think it’s his best work.
I can’t believe you were accused of using ai. You of all people. Outrageous

Steve, Chuck has written many excellent books that I adore, but maybe it’s Choke’s story that resonates with me best. You thinking it is his best work also makes us kindred spirits, you know.
Have you read Pygmy? Diary is a spooky one I’ve been afraid to re-read.
You are welcome and thanks again for the nomination.
What hurts most about the accusation is that when I responded back that no, I did not, the person didn’t believe me and asked me to edit the poem. I said ok, as it was no big deal at that moment, but overnight it kept me awake and so I emailed back, take it out of submission.
