Rhiannon Giddens has a new album out on Nonesuch Records label called, “Hope is the Thing with Feathers.” Here is the title track. It is not only the music but the video, which shows the artist creating the album cover using multi-media collage, that strikes a chord with me.
From the Nonesuch newsletter:
Rhiannon Giddens has released a video for the title track to her new album, Hope Is the Thing with Feathers, featuring timelapse footage of artist Uzoma Samuel Anyanwu creating the album’s cover art, based on a photograph by Ebru Yildiz.
I just happened across this wonderful Democracy Now! video that came out yesterday. BTW, Democracy Now! is an Excellent quality journalism site.

oh a lovely song! I hadn’t heard of her before!

New artist and song for me, Lisa. She has a beautiful voice, and I enjoyed this song. Love the concept of using the album cover art as a focus for the tune’s video.

Bruce, she used to be in The Carolina Chocolate Drops (and may still be, afaik.) She is the one who taught me that the banjo has an African origin. Glad you enjoyed the music and the video :)

Rhiannon Giddens and that song sound great. It’s neat how she sings harmony to her lead vocals – super tight! The video is also a fun idea! I sampled a few other songs from her new album as well. “Carolina Rain” is great! I’m going to write down Rhiannon’s name!

Musically, Rhiannon reminds me a tiny bit of Allison Krauss & Union Station who I saw back in June.
Over the past few years, I’ve warmed to bluegrass – a type of music I didn’t care about for the longest time. Things started to change with Molly Tuttle who just won Artist of the Year at the Americana Honors & Awards. She’s incredible!

I saw that Molly won. Yes, I can hear similarity between Allison and Rhiannon. I know you’ve heard me mention Billy Strings before. He’s a phenomenal bluegrass player. Have you heard of Leftover Salmon?

The name Billy Strings rings a bell, but I gotta check out his music! 😀

Michigan born and raised. A good musician and a decent human being. I’ve listened to interviews with him. He is down home through and through.

I love her voice! Lisa…I forgot to comment yesterday after listening to her… I’ve always liked Bluegrass… I saw a video I meant to send you the other day…Billy Strings talking about meeting Bob Dylan…it is hilarious.
