Song Lyric Sunday — Pearl Jam’s Bee Girl

song lyric sunday

bee girl on blind melon album

Album cover from Blind Melon’s 1992 self-titled album

Helen’s Theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is Girls.

Lost Dogs is a double-disc collection of Pearl Jam B-sides and other released and unreleased rarities that were recorded between 1991 and 2003. Lost Dogs was released on 11/11/03. The song “Bee Girl” is a tribute to Heather DeLoach, who appeared in a bee costume in the music video for “No Rain” by Blind Melon.  Click on “No Rain” to see the video.

I like this song because of the lyrics and how it’s Eddie singing to a young girl who is trying to find her place in the world.

Bee girl, you’re going to die
You don’t want to be famous, you want to be shy
Do your dances alone in your room
Becoming a star will become your doom
Bee Girl, be a girl. [x2]
You know time is long, and life is short
Begin to live while you still can
Believe in nothing, believe me
Those who can be trusted can change their mind
When the anxious is the present, unwrap your gifts, take your time
Everything you imagine needn’t be stuck in your mind
Bee Girl, be a girl… [x2]

Hadn’t heard this one…interesting subject for the song. I just heard “No Rain” on the radio this morning. Always liked Pear Jam, and saw them in concert here awhile back. Best ever! :)

It’s on the “Lost Dogs” 2-cd set, which is a bunch of little known/heard songs. I was surprised who it was about also and didn’t know until looking up info for the song. I saw them in concert several years ago but would love to see them again. Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!
