“Soul Infusion” lithograph by Benjamin Creme
Mish is the host of dVerse tonight. Mish says:
It’s that time again to indulge in our very own dVerse creation, the “Quadrille”. For those of you who have not yet indulged, this is a poem of 44 words, not including the title. It must contain one given word.
Today at the pub, there shall be no guzzling allowed as I am offering you only a sip. Hope you are not thirsty. Yes, that is it. The quadrille word is “sip“.
Write a poem, any style of 44 words, not including the title. Include the word or derivative of the word, “sip”.
Please feel free to write a quadrille and submit it to dVerse! Follow the link above for more information on how to submit it.
I’ve done two, each very different:
Just a Sip
Joni Mitchell could drink a case of him and still be on her feet.
You, but a sip and I stagger.
Her old man is a singer in the park.
You let cosmic rhythms saturate you and bleed into me,
A winged soul infusion.

we are friends
on the low table, your sippy cup and mine;
we, sitting cross legged on our matching rugs,
crunching graham crackers when we’re supposed to be sleeping
giggling over nothing of importance, shhh here comes teacher
unspoken that today and every day we are friends

Different but both joyful.

Joni Mitchell is my favorite songbird; even today as her voice is deeper from jazz, booze, and cigarettes.

She’s one of my favorites. I did a post on her song Ladies of the Canyon on Sunday and ended up going to her web page. She needs help transcribing documents from interviews, etc. Once I get a free minute here I’m going to try to help her out.

Nicely contrasting pieces, but both about beautiful relationships. I like them together like this.

That’s a line from one of her songs, modified to fit my poem. Yes, it is a terrific line :)

I love this, especially because you refer to Joni, and to one my of favorite of her albums – “Blue”!

Thanks Rob, and I commandeered a few of her lines as well ;)

A contrast between the two, the second reminding me of what I experience every day at work., so I choose the first as my favourite! No offense intended. I especially like this….”You let cosmic rhythms saturate you and bleed into me”.

Thank you, Astrid. I searched for “two sippy cups on table” and couldn’t find just two, so I picked this one, which they certainly would be sipping from after their graham crackers. Glad you enjoyed them :)

I love the Joni references, Jade, and how you made them your own. Sometimes sippy cups are necessary, even when we are grown up! The second quadrille reminded me of infant school, where I first met my husband – only we didn’t have graham crackers!

Kim thank you for your kind comments and that is so touching to hear that you were reminded of those times back in infant school <3
