I was listening to Pandora Radio this morning while coloring and knew just the right song would come on, and I was right.

“Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” is a song by English rock band the Rolling Stones from their 1971 album Sticky Fingers. The song is over seven minutes long, and begins with a Keith Richards open-G tuned guitar intro. At two minutes and forty-three seconds, an instrumental break begins, with Rocky Dijon on congas; tenor saxophonist Bobby Keys performs an extended saxophone solo over the guitar work of Richards and Mick Taylor, punctuated by the organ work of Billy Preston. At 4:40 Taylor takes over from Richards and carries the song to its finish with a lengthy guitar solo. The song is featured in the films Casino, Blow, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as the Netflix drama series Ozark, season 1 episode 4, at the beginning and the end.

Yeah, you got satin shoes
Yeah, you got plastic boots
Y’all got cocaine eyes
Yeah, you got speed-freak jive

Can’t you hear me knockin’ on your window
Can’t you hear me knockin’ on your door
Can’t you hear me knockin’ down your dirty street, yeah

Help me baby, ain’t no stranger
Can you help me baby, ain’t no stranger
Help me baby, ain’t no stranger

Can’t you hear me knockin’, ah, are you safe asleep?
Can’t you hear me knockin’, yeah, down the gas light street, now
Can’t you hear me knockin’, yeah, throw me down the keys
Alright now

Hear me ringing big bell tolls
Hear me singing soft and low
I’ve been begging on my knees
I’ve been kickin’, help me please
Hear me prowlin’
I’m gonna take you down
Hear me growlin’
Yeah, I’ve got flatted feet now, now, now, now
Hear me howlin’
And all, all around your street now
Hear me knockin’
And all, all around your town

Songwriters: Keith Richards / Mick Jagger

Hans, glad you like it. I wanted it to have dark colors but not too scary looking. It took awhile. I just added a “jam band” station (i think that’s what it is called) and listened to a lot of allman brothers, grateful dead, rolling stones, and some other assorted bands. it’s a good station and that music helped decide the colors 🙂

Thank you, Max. I’ve been avoiding coloring that bat for awhile, but when I heard that “can’t you hear me knocking” I thought of a vampire knocking at a window and thought ok I have a reason to color the bat. I love that song, one of my favorites of theirs.

  4. I love the Stones, but I was thinking that the Meatloaf song Bat Out Of Hell would have worked nice with this picture.
