Bonus pics!
Guess what came in the mail yesterday? Yup. I just finished listening to the whole album. It’s good. I think side 2 is better than side 1 after a first listen. There is a lot more production in this than other albums of theirs, and they have backup singers. It’s mellow for the most part. You won’t find (m)any pounding beats on here.
From a previous post of mine, From Nonesuch Records’ website:
The Black Keys’ ninth studio album, “Let’s Rock,” will be released June 28, 2019, via Easy Eye Sound / Nonesuch Records. The long-awaited album, the band’s first in five years, is a return to the straightforward rock of the singer/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney’s early days as a band. Auerbach says, “When we’re together we are The Black Keys, that’s where that real magic is, and always has been since we were sixteen.”
The album was produced by the band and is their first album since 2014’s Turn Blue. It was preceded by the singles “Lo/Hi”, “Eagle Birds”, and “Go”. “Lo/Hi” topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock, Adult Alternative Songs, Rock Airplay, and Alternative Songs charts in the US simultaneously, making it the first song ever to do so.
The Black Keys is an American rock band formed in Akron, Ohio, in 2001. The group consists of Dan Auerbach (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Carney (drums). The duo began as an independent act, recording music in basements and self-producing their records, before they eventually emerged as one of the most popular garage rock artists during a second wave of the genre’s revival in the 2010s. The band’s raw blues rock sound draws heavily from Auerbach’s blues influences, including Junior Kimbrough, Howlin’ Wolf, and Robert Johnson. Friends since childhood, Auerbach and Carney founded the group after dropping out of college.
The cut I chose today is called, āSit Around and Miss You,ā and I can’t help from thinking it is a tribute to George Harrison, at least in style. Let me know what you think.
We used to play pretend
You and me thought it might never end
Now I wonder where you’ve been
I sit around and miss you
The fireflies were broke
Turning all the darkness to the show
Oh what made us let it go
I sit around and miss you
I miss you all for better now
I miss the friend I had now
I miss you
Now when it’s getting dark
I walk the side, a ghost out in the park
Always sure we’d leave our mark
I sit around and miss you
I miss you all for better now
I miss the friend I had now
I miss you
I sit around and miss you
Songwriters: Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney.

I will tell you right off- I am going to have to give that Bruce a number of listens- I like it but how much is to be determined. It sure is different for Bruce.

I know what you mean about several listens. Same here with The Black Keys one. It surely is more mellow than what they’ve done before.

This doesn’t mean its a bad album by any means but if The Boss would go on tour and say play this album from start to finish the folks would get restless. Looking forward to the Black Keys- –after I get done cutting grass!

Hans you need to watch that Musicares DVD. His acceptance speech is out of this world. I want to hear the album now but library calls it new and won’t lend it right now. I think I need a new needle for my turntable, it skipped a lot in the beginning of each side š¦ Mowing is on my calendar for tomorrow. It’s like a sauna out there today.

I just got back from the cat shelter. Two cats put their teeth on my skin and one tried to gnaw on my ankle today. Must be a full moon or they aren’t feeding them enough (just kidding, they eat plenty!)

are you alright?

Yes, fine. Their teeth did not go past the surface of my skin. It didn’t hurt. Cats can be very temperamental. One got ticked off because I started to pet another cat who came up on my other side, then both got ticked and “bit” me at the same time. The other cat is going stir crazy in the isolation room (for ringworm) and my shoelaces looked like fun. Then he took it to a whole new level! He had to get a misting with the water bottle to stop, but he came back quickly. Luckily his teeth and claws didn’t get through my jeans or shoes.

I don’t have that much experience around cats but I have noticed that- unpredictable. a cat once scratched my mom and she ended up having to go to the hospital. just checkin’ on ya there- I keep thinking of that.

Thank you, Hans. I appreciate your concern š I’m sorry about your mom having to go to the hospital for a cat scratch.

I think that was probably 30 years ago- it made me very aware – not to mess with a cat!

Very pretty coloring page!
I’d never heard of the Black Keys songs, but I sure do like their sound. I listened to this one, then sampled a bunch of their other ones. Cool š
