Jim Adams is the intrepid host of Song Lyric Sunday. Jim says:
It is important to tell the truth when you are a journalist, but it is also important to get all the facts by asking questions and finding out Who/What/When/Where/Why/How, which is our theme this week for Song Lyric Sunday.
Here are the “rules”:
- Post the lyrics to the song of your choice, whether it fits the theme or not.
- Please try to include the songwriter(s) – it’s a good idea to give credit where credit is due.
- Make sure you also credit the singer/band and if you desire you can provide a link to where you found the lyrics.
- Link to the YouTube video, or pull it into your post so others can listen to the song.
- Ping back to this post will eventually work, as long as you are being patient, but you can also place your link in the comments if you don’t like to wait.
- Read at least one other person’s blog, so we can all share new and fantastic music and create amazing new blogging friends in the process.
- Feel free to suggest future prompts.
- Have fun and enjoy the music.
Transcendental Blues is Steve Earle’s 9th studio album, released in June 2000. The previous album was El Corazon (The Heart) released in October 1997. I’m not sure who the female backup singer is on the song as there is a dearth of info on google for it.
Late at night on some dark deserted highway
On my way to another lonesome town
I thought I might see the first light of a new day
As it lay like fool’s gold on the ground
But whenever I’m feelin’ low
I won’t have to cry alone I know
‘Cause you will answer when I call
If I soar above the clouds and then
I come crashin’ back to earth again
You will catch me when I fall
All these years I’ve watched you trip and stumble
There were times that I feared that you were lost
But every tear that I dried after you tumbled
Comes to mind when I’m considerin’ the cost
But whenever I’m feelin’ low
I won’t have to cry alone I know
‘Cause you will answer when I call
If I soar above the clouds and then
I come crashin’ back to earth again
You will catch me when I fall
All these years I’ve watched you trip and stumble
There were times that I feared that you were lost
But every tear that I dried after you tumbled
Comes to mind when I’m considerin’ the cost
In my heart there’s a place for you to run to
Anytime you’re tired and hurt and blue
For my part I have only to remind you
You will find me waiting when you do
But whenever I’m feelin’ low
I won’t have to cry alone I know
‘Cause you will answer when I call
If I soar above the clouds and then
I come crashin’ back to earth again
You will catch me when I fall
All these years I’ve watched you trip and stumble
There were times that I feared that you were lost
But every tear that I dried after you tumbled
Comes to mind when I’m considerin’ the cost
Songwriters: Steve Earle
Steve’s sister Stacey is the back up singer on the song- she is another of the recording Earle’s- saw her once in concert with her husband Mark Stuart. She has a couple albums out and some together with her husband. .. from my favorite Steve album! Fine selection.

Hans, thank you for solving the mystery! Why is there so little info “out there” on on TB?? Have you ever added any info to wikipedia?

I have never added anything to wikipedia- have you? Is it difficult to do? I saw Stacey and Mark Stuart in concert nearby at a small venue maybe 10 years ago- they were good.

I haven’t because I don’t know anything. lmao. I wish it wasn’t true. I think you have to create an account, and I think there are guidelines to follow, but I don’t think they are extremely difficult.

That is exactly what I found. “The harmonica comes out and sister Stacey comes on to sing for “When I Fall,” her nasal twang a nice contrast to her brother’s rough voice.” Nice song Li from a talented musician.

Lydia I couldn’t leave a comment on your song, I just listened to it. Here is my comment:
I love the song it is asking and telling the right questions and answers. I love the video that is giving examples along the way. First time hearing it (expected to see JT in there somewhere!)

JT came aboard to help bring the “Peas” into the pop genre. However, it came out about the same time as his album and his managers didn’t want “Too much Justin” to saturate the market. So, in an ironic twist, his name was left off the original single and he was not allowed in the video. But the song itself did the trick – though I think the addition of Fergie to the group helped a lot!

Thanks for the explanation, Lydia. Makes sense.

Wow this is a really good song with a great sound of their voices together. I’d not heard it before. 🙂

Did you see that it is Steve’s sister singing with him on it?

Yes, I sure did. So nice when siblings can come together to create music. I like both their voices. 🙂
