dVerse — quadrille #84 — quatrain — Freckle Deep

Image result for Han van Meegeren mefisto and margaretha

freckle deep

so swirled the spell
blood hues imbued
canvas infused
a treasure tell

languid cloak
fold upon fold
texture behold
master stroke

hourglasses tell
soulblasted veneer
etched forgery – tear,
one by one, fell

senses asleep
heart overwrought
account overdrawn
on love a freckle deep

Mish is the host of dVerse today.  Mish says:
Simply write a poem consisting of 44 words, not including the title. There is no specific form or topic required. Your poem MUST contain the given word or some form of the word freckle.

My offering today is a quadrille in quatrain form.

  1. Excellent word-smithing, love on the dark side. Beware of love only a freckle deep–I prefer Leonard Cohen’s /a thousand kisses deep/.

    1. How I meant it is the person was cheated out of love by a love counterfeiter that they had invested in only to find out it was all a sham on the counterfeiter’s part.

  2. Many levels of deceit and grief opened up in these splendid quatrains. Well done. Have a good friend, a bit like family really, who has dropped me, wouldn’t even say goodbye except through a mediator, as it has become evident that I am transgender. This poem resonates with my feelings, here friendship a veneer, superficial so that it could withstand the slightest difference in belief or the rigors of her ideology. It hurts, felt like the heroine in your poem. Some universality here Jade. My account with her paid but unsettled. But I am joyful at true friends who while they don’t agree with what I am doing, our friendship has still thrived. Hope remains

    1. ❤ Hugs to you Lona. To be turned aside for "the slightest difference" by one you felt you were very close to hurts probably more than anything, as it makes a person question their perceptions. The fact the person wouldn't even say goodbye except through a mediator is adding insult to the injury. In total agreement about the genuine friends, they are priceless. With my ex- we were so very close, but at some point things turned to a direction there was no returning from. He told me more than once he wished he would have gotten together when we were both young, where we attended the same karate class but didn't know each other. Now that he's gone I have to wonder if we had we'd still be together…
