50 Word Thursday — Dissipating Darkness

David’s kitten, Mlady, suddenly jetted out the house’s side door and began running down an alley. He chased her and saw her tail disappear through an opening in a rusted-out metal door. Within seconds David followed her through it – to another world. He turned around to leave but the door was gone.

Mlady was waiting for David and spoke, “Dear One, I’m a spirit from this dimension that was sent to watch over you. Dark forces have converged that mean to destroy light. The wizard called and said to bring you to him. He has information you need to help.”

Feeling disoriented but understanding his survival depended on getting his senses together, David said, “Mlady, I’m either dreaming, having a psychotic episode, or this is for real. Whichever one it is, take me to the wizard.”

They sprouted wings and flew across green valleys and snowy peaks, until they came to a bamboo cabana. Entering the cabana, they saw a small blue rabbit munching on a piece of coconut. “David, you’re a key part of a rebellion joining together to dissipate darkness. Eat this coconut and call me in your dreams if you have any questions.”

David ate the coconut and knew all he needed. The rabbit was gone. Looking around he saw the portal and tried it. Locked. David knocked on the door that the wizard had returned to its original dilapidated but one piece style. It opened and he and Mlady went to help save their world.

The End.

Deb Whittam of Twenty Four is the host of this Thursday’s 50 Word Thursday.  It is my understanding that Deb originated the prompt, then Teresa of The Haunted Wordsmith took over and Kristian at Tales from the Mind of Kristian began co-hosting the prompt.  Teresa left Word Press after post pirates attacked.  Deb has graciously agreed to begin co-hosting with Kristian.  Happy to hear it as I enjoy writing to the prompts of photo and/or quotation every Thursday.  Deb says:

The Rules:

  • Find the muse within the photo or line provided and follow where it leads. It can be a story, anecdote, poem. Anything!
  • The Story must be between 50 and 250 words, in 50 word increments. (so 50, 100, 150, 200 or 250 words)
  • Link back to this post with the tag 50WordThurs so that everyone can find it, or post your response in the comments below.

I thought we would have something a bit obscure for this week, so have fun, I’m looking forward to the results.
