Thursday Inspiration 21 — Fire and Rain

Bonfire on the beach

A spark was struck that dry autumn day as we met by chance by Lost Lake. The undergrowth of red as it crept up to the treetops matched a growing heat in our bellies as the crickets sang with wild abandon.

We walked back to the trailhead together and agreed to meet at the same place, same time tomorrow before parting. Flames shot between us as we shook hands goodbye.

Brain on fire as it played the afternoon back again and again, every nuance of your expressions, the language your body spoke, the ordinary words elevated to song with your voice. How could such an earthly angel have crossed my path.

Goddess was good to me that evening as you visited my dreams. Indeed you had wings in it. You lifted me to the skies and we traveled over Lost Lake, moonlight’s silver making it sparkle. I thought my heart would jump out of my chest. You kissed me there, in the sky, and we were one celestial circuit shining with the moon with love’s light.

Waking, I drank my coffee and watched the morning news. A news flash interrupted the program. Blipping across the screen: Extraterrestial Captured!

Sitting up when I heard Lost Lake, a surreal aura enveloped me as the wonderful man I met at the lake was in cuffs and leg irons and being loaded into an ambulance. The voice from the TV said he was being taken to a government medical facility for study.

My body began to tremble and a loud cry burst from me. Sobbing and screaming, I knew I would never see the man of my dreams again – unless I could find his ship or contact his home planet.

The End.

Paula is the host of Thursday Inspiration.  Paula says:
This week’s theme is fire and the picture is [above]. Here is the song snippet from “Fire and Rain” recorded by James Taylor in 1970:

I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain
I’ve seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I’ve seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I’d see you again

A great tale of the alienated being, the feared stranger, yet love can breach the mores.
