The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 is the debut studio album by the English-American supergroup Traveling Wilburys, comprising George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. It was released in October 1988 to commercial success and critical acclaim. Although Harrison had long planned to start such a band, the project came about through happenstance. Harrison was in Los Angeles and in need of a B-side for a single from his Cloud Nine album, which resulted in the participants collaborating informally on the song “Handle with Care” at Dylan’s home. Adopting alter egos as the five Wilbury brothers, they then recorded a full album, produced by Lynne and Harrison.
The Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 was nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1989 and helped revitalise the careers of Dylan, Orbison and Petty. It has been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
“Heading for the Light” is a song by the British–American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys from their 1988 album Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. It was written primarily by George Harrison but credited to all five members of the band. Harrison sings the song with Jeff Lynne, who also co-produced the track and, with Harrison, formulated the idea for starting the Wilburys. The song was issued as a promotional single in the United States, where it peaked at number 7 on Billboard’s Album Rock Tracks chart. The song received a commercial release in Australia in 1989, where it peaked at number 88 on the ARIA singles chart.
I’ve wandered around with nothing more than time on my hands
I was lost in the night with no sight of you
And at times it was so blue and lonely
Heading for the light
Been close to the edge, hanging by my fingernails
I’ve rolled and I’ve tumbled through the roses and the thorns
And I couldn’t see the sign that warned me
I’m heading for the light
Oh, I didn’t see that big black cloud hanging over me
And when the rain came down, I was nearly drowned
I didn’t know the mess I was in
My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don’t see nothing new, but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling as I’m
Heading for the light
Oh, my hands were tired
Jokers and fools on either side
But, still, I kept on till the worst had gone
Now I see the hole I was in
My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don’t see nothing new, but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling as I’m
Heading for the light
I see the sun ahead, I ain’t never looking back
All the dreams are coming true as I think of you
Now there’s nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light
Now there’s nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light
Heading for the light
Heading for the light

Not a bad song on this album. My favorite “Super Group” ever. This is about as talented of a band as you can get. This helped push Roy back in the spotlight. This cassette stayed in my car in the late 80s.

I was very surprised at how long ago it came out. Time marches on. I agree with all you said. Roy never lost voice quality, what a blessing.

It was a blessing having him on there.
If you have the chance give the other album a try…Vol 3…It’s not great like this one…but good.

Is there a volume 2?

No…just them having some fun with the title. There are some good songs and some silly songs on it…like the Wilbury Twist but it’s worth hearing just to hear Bob singing in it.

I think we talked about this before but 3 of them are gone now :( I think of them as still being alive because of youtube and watching the old videos…

They all seemed to be having fun on that album.

It just seems so weird to have the superstars singing a pretty much generic background vocals on some of the songs. I loved picking out the different influences, guitars, etc. on the songs. Some were easy, some not so easy.

Ok. Spooky, cool weird…I’ve had End of the Line by these guys stuck in my head ALL day! I find myself appreciating them more now at 46 than I ever did as a kid or teen. Although I’ve always been in love with Roy Orbison’s voice. There’s just something about him.
