It Happened in Sun Valley” is a 1941 song composed by Harry Warren and with lyrics by Mack Gordon. It was recorded and featured by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra in the movie Sun Valley Serenade.

Sun Valley Serenade is a 1941 musical film directed by H. Bruce Humberstone and starring Sonja Henie, John Payne, Glenn Miller, Milton Berle, and Lynn Bari. It features the Glenn Miller Orchestra as well as dancing by the Nicholas Brothers and Dorothy Dandridge, performing “Chattanooga Choo Choo”, which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1996, and was awarded the first Gold Record for sales of 1.2 million.

The first video is Klea Blackhurst, Jim Caruso, and Billy Stritch, from Christmas at Birdland, released October 18, 2019. Birdland is a jazz club started in New York City on December 15, 1949. The original Birdland, which was located at 1678 Broadway, just north of West 52nd Street in Manhattan, was closed in 1965 due to increased rents, but it re-opened for one night in 1979. A revival began in 1986 with the opening of the second nightclub by the same name that is now located in Manhattan’s Theater District, not far from the original nightclub’s location. The current location is in the same building as the previous New York Observer headquarters.

The second video is The Fraser Hayes Four, originally called The Fraser Hayes Quartet was a British close harmony vocal group, formed by the musicians Jimmy Fraser (real name Frazer Potts) and Tony Hayes in the late 1940s, disbanded in 1953, and re-formed in 1956. According to ‘The Ballad Years’ by Don Wicks, the four original members were Jimmy Fraser (Potts), Tony Hayes, Dave Mason and June Ellis. The group split for good in late 1969. They are best known for providing musical interludes on the BBC Radio comedy programs Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne.

Howdy folks, let’s go for a ride
Get your favorite one to sit by your side
Cuddle up in a sleigh, gitty up, Nellie Gray, and away we go
While you listen to the sleighbells ring
You re yodeling to your baby
You’ll feel nice and warm
No matter how cold it may be
Take a look at little Jack and Jill
They ski down a hill
That s a snowplough turn
And look, there’s a spill,
There s a spill on a hill
When you’re down it’s a thrill
To go up again
Ev’rybody ought to learn to ski
For that is how we first met
We were that Jack and Jill
That came down a hill
When I looked at you
My heart took a spill
Took a spill on a hill
It’s a thrill that I can’t forget…

It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow
And a twinkle in your eyes
I remember oh! so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell, and so did I…

It happened in Sun Valley
Not so very long ago
There were sunbeams in the snow
And I fell in love when I saw that
Twinkle in your eyes
I remember oh! so clearly
That you nearly passed me by
Then it happened in Sun Valley
When you slipped and fell, and so did I…

Now ev’ry year we go back and then
We recall that fall and that moment when
We were there on a hill
So we both take a spill
And we’re Jack and Jill
Again!

      1. WordPress says that I have 84,259 views and 20,884 comments, but only 814 Followers, which includes Publicize, which I guess allows connections with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, and Eventbrite. I would much rather have Likes and Comments than Followers. When did you start your blog?

        1. 115 posts in 2017, 262 in 2018, so started in ’17 but ’17 and ’18 were part time. I just added up views to 74,361 and comments to 20,263. I’m sure your views and comments have jacked up since taking on SLS.
