Fuzzy crimson splotches
Warped blossoms
Viral entanglements
Crude pills on the weft
Tactile levity severed
Too many hanging threads
Dangling dust magnets
I need a good shake
Laid on the line
Chill breeze
Tightening my weave
Beaten with purpose
Until my surface is flush

Many years ago I used to cross-stitch and make tapestry. I love your personified tapestry to bits, Lisa, especially the ‘Warped blossoms’ and ‘Viral entanglements’, and the ‘Chill breeze / Tightening my weave’!

Great ekphrastic poem, I loved how you used the language of weaving to “tie” it all together. (Sorry- couldn’t help it) This poem made me want to read it again – just for the sheer pleasure that your word choice bestowed. Did you know where it was going when you started? I really liked/appreciated the twist between the first and second stanza – very haiku-like feel to this.

You conjured a lost memory! Mother used to put the carpets on the line in a fresh spring breeze and beat the daylights out of them with a carpet-beater made for that purpose, discouraging the dust of winter. Hadn’t thought about that for YEARS! Thanks.
