Haikai Challenge 193 — Memorial Day haiku series 053121

Memorial Day Landscape Sunset Painting by Greg Cartmell | Saatchi Art

Bones lie where they fell,
bullets long buried silence –
each Spring poppies bloom.

Too many widows
stooped today, wilting at graves —
mourning doves take flight.

Uniformed, each Spring
they march Main in Everytown
trying to forget.

This week, write the haikai poem of your choice (haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, haiga, renga, etc.) that alludes to either Memorial Day or the rainbow (niji).

I’m doing, and doing better with the weather. Busy is good if its doing things that bring you joy. Good to see you. Will check out yours in a sec.

  7. I like the phrase “wilting at graves.” Beautiful image that ties together rainbow (colors, at least) with poppies for Memorial Day.
