If I Do Not Do, Let Light Need Me

If I do not do, let light need me
that I may do what needs to be done.
If I do not speak, let words read me,

banner in the sky against the sun.
Let light rally kindred spirits near
that I may do what needs to be done.

With the doing, may it banish fear
of weakened darkness’ hollow rumble;
let light rally kindred spirits near.

May isolation make dark fumble.
Let it shrink into a cold crevasse
of weakened darkness’ hollow tumble.

May the night give way! Let lightning flash!
World unites, seals it in afterwards
as it shrinks into a cold crevasse.

Global chant rise, harmonious chords;
world hums in light song afterwards.
If I do not do, let light free me.
if I do not hear, let words reach me.

The image today is a collage I did based on a dream I had recently.

Today’s offering is in the terzanelle form. Thanks to the Muse for the first line of the poem, from which the rest follows. It is a prayer for vanquishment of Putin personally for his ongoing attack of Ukraine.

Brendan is today’s host at earthweal’s Open Link Weekend.

    Yes, vanquishment of putin is our best hope. This is a beautiful poem, and a striking collage.

      Sherry, thank you. The dream was more of a “flash” dream, where the image stayed long enough to get a good look at it. The children’s shoes on it is very disturbing/haunting to me. In the dream the Ukrainian flag was what it was on, but it was a road, not a snake, but when rolled it over in my mind the next day, I realized it was a giant snake (no offense meant to snakes) slithering its way across the country. The fact there is no head and the head has already moved on is also disturbing.

      Suzanne, thank you. I am hoping the whole planet minus one is in prayer right now. I can’t believe the Russian troops want to be doing what they are doing.

        I guess they are brainwashed though, surely there are some that are questioning it. War is such a brutalizing energy it destroys people’s compassion sometimes.

    As always, you take a form and make it yours. This is graceful and so real in its sadness, which makes the words and the song call out all the louder . It’s one that needs to be sung by us all.

  8. I think we all have a purpose and a part to play, very much like a collage of souls, to fight and transmute all the darkness. I can envision the darkness as it “shrinks into a cold crevasse.” 👏👏
