Tree that stands tall in Michigan
Michigan is no place for sequoia
Sequoia only home is California

Planted in Manistee, at the lake
Lake Michigan’s temperate bluff
Bluff that satisfies the sequoia
Earlier in the week, I heard there were sequoia trees growing in Manistee, which about 90 minutes north of here, and I had to see them for myself. The pics are taken at a bird (and tree) sanctuary, Lake Bluff Farms. There are 3 of these giants and so many other giant trees that are protected there.

Thanks, Glenn. I read that the climate there is just right, protected from too harsh winter and still gets hot enough to make the cones open so the seeds get out of them. I also read that some people grow grapefruit trees in the area but that I haven’t seen.

Wow I live in Michigan and I didn’t know about this. I must go to see them. I live about two maybe three hours from there.

I just learned about them in the past week. If you are that close, for sure, go and check them out. There are a bunch of other really big old trees there also on the property.

Yes! I did some research a few months back about a place in Copemish, Michigan, that clones them. Their site says they scrub way more CO2 out of the atmosphere than your usual tree. I’m geeked about it.
