sticks live – and they fly
is how they maneuver why
they’re dubbed dragonfly?
sticks live – and they fly
rainbow bodies, gossamer wings
hunting over fields
how they maneuver
belies their simple design –
except for their eyes
they’re dubbed dragonfly
sky’s tiny smokeless terrors
unlit cigarettes
How wonderfully you’ve described the dragonfly.

Fascinating creatures!

Yes they are. Quite scary also if you look at them too closely. Their larvae, which live in the water, are quite creepy.

I love dragonflies… although they are odd. I just saw one this weekend…along with a small snake.

I was working on our old truck (more on that Sat) and I kicked a rock and there it was…it was probably only 5 inches long so I couldn’t tell if it was a bad one or not…it went into the woods. I kept an eye out for mom.
After tonight they should be gone…we are getting a frost.

Wow I wouldn’t have thought to look for the mother but I just googled that most snakes who live near or in water have live births.

I barely saw the thing at first…I thought it was a worm until I kicked another rock…that was enough for me as it sped away.

Well at least you know where they might be hiding! Maybe the frost will put them in suspended animation (forgot the word for it other than outright hibernation.)

Yea…they should be for the most part gone in a week or so for good until spring.

An enjoyable verse indeed. I enjoy the little flying damsel flies too!

Jules, thanks much. I think we used to call them sewing bugs.
