Alex- A few moments of reading pleasure
in return for an evening of sensual delights.
Dennis, October Bacchanalia 1994
Sent November 1, 1994:
Dear Dennis,
Is this a statement on my lack of reading prowess —
or did you just want me to see the pictures?
Intrigued,
Alex
Sent November 2, 1994:
Dear Alex,
Glossy tastes good in either case.
Have you finished Chapter 1?
Marinating,
Dennis
Sent November 3, 1994:
Dear Dennis,
Chapters 1-3 sampled and
savored. Dreams enjoy
new ingredients.
Sleeping well,
Alex
Sent November 4, 1994:
Dear Alex,
Is it wrong to think of you
as an entree?
Hungry,
Dennis
Sent November 5, 1994:
Dear Dennis,
Under electric candlelight*
and sipping cosmos,
I ravished the final chapter.
Feverishly,
Alex
Sent November 6, 1994:
Dearest Alex,
I may be forward in asking,
but may I arrive at 8
for dessert?
Famished (and yours,)
Dennis
The book I chose to write to is titled, The Physiology of Taste, by Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin. The inscription is at the top of the post and used as an epigraph. The letter format is used with 2 voices, the giver and the receiver.
*Under electric candelight is a lyric from The Kinks’ song, “Layla”
Laura is today’s host of dVerse’ Meet the Bar. Laura says:
Place the chosen inscription as epigraph at the start of your post. Enter this portal to the past and use your imagination.
What an effective way to convey the message.

It’s a really cool idea…by having a inscription by the author. Something you don’t see everyday.

Yes it is. I’m heading out into the elements in a minute here. Will be back to read posts later.

Made it back, safe and sound. Yesterday I was out and was “unprompted fishtailing” on glare ice at 50. Really thought I was going into the ditch. Some jerk stayed right on my tail.

It’s always the other people… I just refuse to drive on it. Here hardly anyone knows how to drive in it and I wanna go slow…and they don’t. Jen can drive well in it because she grew up in it in West Virginia.

The way you used the various part of the meal as a way to maybe finale with a carnal dessert is well done. Delicious little notes…
