dVerse Q244 Silence

Silence

Silence ....
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
… … … …
.. .. .. .. is death.

Lillian is today’s host for dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Lillian would like us to write a 44-word poem using the word silence. The ellipses count as words in my word processing program.

Your silent quadrille is unique, Lisa, and audacious. The image you chose to illustrate it is haunting – like the silence.

Kim, thank you! I love the word audacious. When I saw silence was the Q word this week my first thought was Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. Also about the fascist government trying to silence dissent. If they succeed we may as well curl up and die.

My pleasure, Lisa. It’s a huge worry: if they can ban books they can ban speech and opinion. I can’t bear to watch the news these days.

Kim, I made a comment on a YouTube on The Colbert Show and it was censored. It was perfectly civil but expressed disappointment at the decisions CBS was making in regards to their programming. I won’t go into the details of my disappointment but they absolutely are not interested in any criticism.

What a unique and effective approach to the prompt!!!! Yes, when I insert an ellipsis in my poem, and then do a word count review, it counts the ellipsis as a word! Powerful statement as well!

As I mentioned to Kim, silence to me equates to Rachel Carson and oppressive regimes. Thanks, Lillian.

Laura, I learned that they counted as words at another prompt with a word limit to it. I think they work well here. Thanks for reading and your comment.

Truedessa hadn’t thought of the ellipses as flat-lines, but that’s perfect! Thank you <3

Lynn, I think of atoms always in motion and in their tiny ways creating heat and noise. Once the brakes are on them… they stop being one thing and become another.

I saw your comments above about Rachel Carson and the current regime, but I also thought of Hamlet.
