#FF — Plus One

PHOTO PROMPT © Dale Rogerson

The triplets lived near each other; for forty years they had a standing lunch date for the first Friday of the month. Today’s lunch was at Sal’s By The Beach. As the sisters waited for the Blue Light Special, fricaseed blackfish, they got so caught up in the conversation that they didn’t notice the tall, thin stranger with the bushy hair standing near their table and listening.

Clearing his throat, all heads turned towards him.

Good afternoon. I’d like to introduce myself. I’m your long-lost brother, sold at birth by our parents. Boys fetched 50 gold coins in those days.”

The End.

  4. Dear Lisa,

While the story ends with “the end” I sense that this is just the beginning. Is he really their brother? Hmmm? You leave me hanging. Well done.

    Shalom,

  12. Hmmmmm….is he or isn’t he? Although he does know that they’re sisters, which a regular con man might not know upon approach…but it might be easy enough to find out given their habit. Good story!

That might even have been enough to raise the girls. Usually it was the other way around, though, with the girls getting sold because the boys were worth keeping.

So it was not triplets, but quadruplets. Why was the boy sold, there were three girls, one could have been exchanged for gold coins. It must be some surprise to meet a long lost brother they did not even know existed.

  22. I’m of the opinion a DNA test is needed also. There are all types of weirdos out there. It was a great ending twist though, Jade. :) — Suzanne

Thank you for your comment, Suzanne. Agreed, as DNA tests are easily available these days, confirmation — from a source the three use! — would be needed.

Wow, just read the wiki article on Slender Man. Truly fascinating and disturbing at the same time. I think of young, impressionable minds that are already getting confused by what’s real and what’s virtual, and it gives me the creeps! You’ve heard the expression, “thoughts matter” and with Slender Man you see what “mattered” into. I hope the tall thin man isn’t sinister, but that tale is yet to be told….
