dVerse — Quadrille 145 — Nibbling

Late Sunday night I’m sipping tea
and watching the end
of, “Ray Donovan: The Movie.”
And crying.
Chauncey, the puppy, should be
running in dreams after
hounding Mlady and Dotty
all day; instead, he’s nibbling
my toes.
What a silly, synchronous
act of comforting.

Note:  Chauncey passed away in 2016, but he remains alive in my memory.  David asked if the top photo was of him.  No, it isn’t, but I found one of him as a puppy to share:

Mish is today’s host of dVerse’ Quadrille Monday. Mish says:
Would you like to nibble at some poetry? Add the word or form of the word, nibble to your poem of 44 words, not including the title. A culinary theme is fine but certainly not required. There are many things to nibble on.

Thank you, Sarah. The new pup is fictional but it is something Chauncey would do.

  4. So very nice to have a comforting friend like that… so many have gotten puppies here as they have been working from home… and I can understand that.

Thank you, Bjorn. Yes, now is the time for furbabies. We are actually having a pet food shortage in the US because of it. I would love to get a puppy, but the cats would have him for breakfast.

It is one of the funniest things to see a dog running in their dreams. Thanks for reminding me of that visual.

Oh she is calming down a little now…she has a playmate next door…a small Texas Heeler and they can play for hours….if Martha doesn’t run over her lol.

        1. msjadeli says:

Awwww that’s so neat she has a playmate. I remember Bob used to take Chauncey over to his brother’s house every Sunday. His brother had Chester, who looked like a cross between a Black Lab and a Great Dane. Those two would also have a lot of fun playing. Chauncey, the tiny ball of energy, could be a pest though and Chester would let him know when he had had enough. Not mean, but Chauncey got the message.

We even thought about getting a smaller dog just for Martha to have some friend to play with. It wears her out and she is much better when she is tired…not as curious.

How adorable your Chauncy was … I am dog-sitting my granddaughter’s dog right now ~ Rooney. He is so sweet a small reddish poodle 2 1/2 years old. The act of comforting, ah yes.

Helen, knowing you have Rooneye to hug makes me smile. My mom had a miniature poodle named Duke that she adored years ago. Now she has a Shih Tzu (sp?) named Hailey that she adores. My mom would be lost without Hailey.
