dVerse — Poetics — choice with update on 9/8/22 on Pinocchio origins

pleasure island

Is health dread chore as stone to bear,
where taste sums not but sweat adds up?
Foul apps clang fail; reminder’s swear.
Is health dread chore as stone to bear
as friends die young, diseased, with flair?
One’s life line grows. Gray’s bitter cup.
Is health dread chore as stone to bear,
where taste sums not but sweat adds up?

Is free a place where no is myth,
where rope enough can’t tie you up;
a sinful soup and that is this?
Is free a place where no is myth,
a carousel with ever bliss;
flipped coin that always lands with luck?
Is free a place where no is myth,
where rope enough can’t tie you up?

Perhaps its best to channel surf
and tune into each moment’s song;
to taste the air, to scuff the earth.
Perhaps its best to channel surf;
to choose adventures e’er diverse;
to not get gummed with right and wrong.
Perhaps its best to channel surf
and tune into each moment’s song.

Triolet form.

Update on 090822:

Also please note that Pinocchio, the classic children’s tale, was first created in Carlo Collodi’s 1883 Italian book “The Adventures of Pinocchio”.

And so fellow word wrestlers, you have the choice to craft a poem in any style, form, meter, syntax, rhyme scheme, line length, or formatting – having to do with the concept of choice.

    Yes, the choice is yours, the doctor’s advice or the alternative.
    That’s no choice, like the rest of them, doctors win.
    “To taste the air …”
    but there I have no choice, COVID got my taste and smell.
    A fun read, Lisa. My handicaps are small compared with some others.

      Me too! It’s been so many years since seeing that movie. Jiminy Cricket has always been one of my favorite Disney characters.

    I so enjoyed the verses in the trilot form. The second part gives me pause to ponder about the myth of freedom. The third one is a hopeful note with : tune into each moment’s song. Refraining lines work well with this form.

      Glad you connect to it, Rob. I like to stay in the middle ground between the first and second verse but often end up in the extremes so head to the third :)

    “To tune into each moment’s song” – lovely! Lisa, Your poem reads like a carousel with chiming choices, spinning into one clear desire. Beautifully crafted.

    Very insightful and well put together Lisa. So many things influence our capacity to make good choices – age being a significant one. Sometimes I just want to stick my head in the sand, but of course there is so much good to live for as well. It is easy to be overwhelmed and you need to make a conscious effort to keep perspective on who you are, your place at any given time and where you are really at with that.
